Purpose

~ The Sr. Group Manager is responsible for all external communications on behalf of the company, primarily with media and press as they relate to the company’s product and technology portfolio in the United States. This includes close coordination with Hyundai’s headquarters in Korea on global product launch strategies and other Hyundai Motor North America regions, including Canada and Mexico. This position must maintain relationships with both traditional and new media across the U.S.

~ The Sr. Group Manager has lead responsibility for all Hyundai vehicle launch programming and public relations auto show activity. The position is responsible for the strategic planning and budget management for all product PR activities, closely aligned with corporate and marketing communications. The position is responsible for managing operations of the product public relations department, product introductions and sustaining activities, preparation of press materials, the media press fleet, the Hyundai media website, background papers, speeches and other written materials used by the company in communicating with the media and public. The individual provides counsel and support to other departments on public relations and media relations issues. The Sr. Group manager oversees a team of public relations managers at company headquarters and one position at the company’s facility near Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Major Responsibilities

~ Prepare the yearly product public relations plan for Hyundai Motor America.

~ Plan and implement launch events for new products and technologies.

~ Plan and implement new product introductions for national, regional, and local media in order to obtain the maximum amount of positive coverage and drive sales activity.

~ Oversee the strategic development and implementation of publicity for connected car technologies, quality, safety, and service.

~ Create alignment and synergies with other Hyundai Motor Group mobility businesses to tell a cohesive story on Hyundai’s innovation and technology leadership.

~ Oversee the preparation of press releases and all other written press communications throughout the year.

~ Develop creative ways of communicating with media regarding the features and benefits of Hyundai’s products and technologies.

~ Oversee the HyundaiNews.com website, ensuring its accuracy, timeliness, and effectiveness.

Major Responsibilities (continued)

~ Strengthen and build relationships with the media to improve the media’s coverage of the Company.

~ Improve the Hyundai brand image and reputation.

~ Improve the image and reputation of the company’s products.

~ Manage the public relations agencies, including monitoring the operations and work.

~ Develop and oversee analytics and measurement to determine the effectiveness of all programming.

~ Obtain the best possible media coverage for the company and its products and technologies.

~ Prepare speeches for senior Hyundai executives.

~ Manage the product Public Relations department budget for various programs throughout the year.

~ Assist with dealer communications with the Sales Division as needed.

~ Effectively coach, counsel and develop staff; efficiently manage staff’s time, materials and budget while focusing on the goals and vision of the company.

Authority

~ Independent judgement required on critical-issue decision making, problem identification, problem solving, and dealing with media responses.

~ Signature authority to approve accounting documents as per Company’s signature matrix.

~ Signature authority on expense reports and time-off reports for direct reports.

~ Expected to identify and solve issues related to HMA and division.

~ Conduct hiring interviews and make hiring recommendations.

~ Address and counsel direct reports on performance issues and goals direction.

Education

~ Must be a high school graduate
~ Bachelor’s degree preferred
~ Master’s degree a plus

Related Experience

~ Ten plus years of experience of which at least eight years in directly related experience in related field.

~ Six years of supervisory experience desired.

Skills/Knowledge

~ Forward thinking and able to prepare for the future as well as meet today’s demands.

~ Strong leader with high level of supervisory skills with staff including mentoring and staff development to improve quality and productivity.

~ Excellent organizational skills.

~ Ability to delegate and follow up.

~ Functional knowledge of MS Word, Excel, and office e-mail systems.

~ Ability to work with all levels of management internally and externally.

~ Ability to express oneself clearly, concisely, effectively, and convincingly in writing and speaking.

~ Ability to develop, execute and manage communications and public relations strategies and tactics.

~ General knowledge of state and federal political and regulatory systems.

~ Knowledge of state and federal government lobbying requirements and general regulations.

~ Familiarity with basic budget and accounting functions.

$126,225.00 – $187,000.00 Annual
