Nature of Work:

  • Will work under the supervision of the Vice President of Media & Player Relations
  • Write press releases for player signings and other team announcements
  • Editor and manager of the annual media guide, playoff guide and draft guide
  • Compile postgame notes and quotes for all Avalanche home and road contests
  • Work closely with Avalanche digital department and Colorado Eagles on announcing player transactions throughout the season
  • Collaborate with internal departments (marketing, corporate partnership, digital/social, etc.) regarding team needs throughout the season
  • Assist in coordinating daily media availabilities and in facilitating player interviews
  • Coordinate player appearances in conjunction with the Kroenke Sports Charities and the Avalanche’s community relations department
  • Assist in the preparation of quotes and statements on behalf of the organization and team executives to complement press releases and announcements
  • Oversee credential process and media lists for all Avalanche home games, practices and events
  • Help with the coordination of press conferences and team events
  • Oversee the setup for daily media availabilities both at Ball Arena and Family Sports
  • Manager of the Avalanche’s PR interns and game night staff
  • Resource for the coaching staff and hockey operations as needed

Qualifications:

  • Minimum
    1. Bachelor’s degree in communication, Mass Communication, Public Relations, Journalism, or a similar field.
    2. Minimum 4 years of experience in professional sports PR or college Sports Information
    3. Minimum 2 years of website and social media experience.
    4. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • Preferred
    1. general knowledge of hockey preferred.
    2. Ability to acquire or produce and maintain a valid driver’s license and meet company vehicle driving standards.

Competencies/Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • General knowledge of desktop publishing software and AP style.
  • extensive knowledge of the major web browsers and all Microsoft programs
  • familiarity with both Mac and PC, experience using the Adobe suite, primarily InDesign.

Compensation:

  • Base salary range $70,000.00-$70,000.00 per annum
