Overview of the team:
VMware is looking for a technical leader to join our Could Platform VCenter Server team. We are changing the landscape of cloud computing and building industry-leading Hybrid-Cloud. In this position, you will be a part of the Workload Management Initiative, which will make vSphere the best platform to run Kubernetes workloads. You will make a high impact by designing and implementing scalable and concurrent system software and cloud-native applications along with a team of talented and enthusiastic engineers. Responsibilities:
This Sr. Manager position will be responsible for building an impactful and motivated team of developers– effectively working, collaborating, and delivering innovative features for the Kubernetes platform in vSphere.
• The role partners with product managers and technical leaders
• Builds the team through recruiting and growing team members
• Aligns team activities to program and business objectives
• Continuously works with the team to ensure effective processes for accountability and predictability
• Facilitates collaboration and communication within and across teams
• Provides practical guidance to ensure prioritization and timely scoping
• Effectively communicates with many types of audiences
Success in the Role: What are the performance goals over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Success in this role enables you to present the WCP strategy and how it relates to the overall vSphere strategy. Another key indicator of success is ensuring the continued growth and development of your team. This includes helping team members build career and growth plans and in promoting a culture where the team feels empowered, recognized, and challenged.
What type of work will you be doing? What assignments or requirements will you be performing regularly?
• Upon joining, management of the team becomes your highest priority. This includes enabling them to excel in their day-to-day job, coaching them to grow within the engineering career ladder, and leveraging your domain expertise and organizational context to connect them with growth opportunities.
• Build and execute the team’s roadmap in terms of methodologies, development processes, and team enablement to enhance productivity and efficiency.
• Manage projects the team members are working on, helping the tech lead and team members deliver the projects on time, in scope, and at the production-level quality
• Understand the technical domain and ability to understand, and share architectural and technical guidance on the full stack of TKG and Kubernetes
• Encourage the team to invest in automation and tools that increase efficiencies and aid them in their day-to-day job.
• Formulate leadership level messaging and communications
• Be able to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
What is leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
The hiring manager for this role is Brandon Nelson, Director R&D Workload Control Plane Platform Infrastructure. Brandon has been at VMware for more than 7 years and is a previous manager of this team.
Brandon will work with you to set strategy, provide guidance, and remove impediments. He will expect you to be self-driven, creative, and energized to achieve the team’s mission.

For US based candidates, the annual pay range (OTE for commissioned roles; Salary for other roles) for this position is: $139,000 – $331,000. The actual offer will be based on the role, location, and individual candidate experience. Bonus, commission, and/or equity may be eligible for this position. VMware offers comprehensive benefits including, but not limited to: medical, dental, and vision plans, company paid holidays, paid sick leave, and vacation time.
