Job Summary:

The role of Senior Marketing Manager will be responsible for assisting in the conception and execution of marketing strategies that drive revenue, attendance and guest experience for The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. The marketing team achieves these goals by developing business and communication strategies and partnering with zoo departments to both create and execute omni-channel marketing campaigns that drive general admission, memberships, and development, and increase awareness for the conservation efforts of the zoo.

The Senior Manager, Marketing will be responsible for the execution and fulfillment of monthly campaigns and programs and the coordination of media buys to support these programs. Successful candidates must demonstrate strategic acumen, exceptional leadership skills of direct reports as well strong collaboration within a multidepartment setting. Candidate should have a strong grasp of the media industry, extensive experience in destination marketing, and an ability to execute planned programs and campaigns with a determination to exceed defined KPI’s while offering outstanding guest experience to internal and external stakeholders.

This position is 100% onsite.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspire and lead direct reports in day-to-day management of work, in addition to providing ongoing management of marketing team members.
  • Lead the strategic development and assist in execution of omni-channel marketing campaigns such as digital, social, events and traditional media, etc.
  • Partner closely with the insights and analytics teams to gather information that enhances our understanding of the guest experience and influences our go-to-market approach.
  • Drive collaboration with a multitude of cross-functional stakeholders to deliver state of the art marketing campaigns and programs to drive and influence KPI’s and goals.
  • Possess strong, clear written and verbal communication skills with the ability to react quickly and accordingly in quick turnaround scenarios.
  • The ability to interpret and understand and report on real time data and sales reports to guide the evolution of campaigns and programs.
  • Assist in Management team’s budget (in partnership with VP), onboarding and team recruitment (as needed).
  • Assist in high-level media trafficking and media negotiations.
  • Direct the strategy for online and digital marketing to meet quantifiable KPI’s and analytics.
  • Contribute to desert conservation through reduction of waste, water and energy use, and inspiring guests and team members to take conservation actions.

Requirements

Specific Skills:

  • 10+ years of relevant experience with a history of leading the strategic development and go-to-market execution of omni-channel campaigns, programs, and events.
  • Proven leadership in building and motivating high performance teams, more direct reports, vendors and cross-departmental teams.
  • Understanding of a broad set of marketing disciplines – covering creative, media, PR, promotions, social and digital, partnerships, etc.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and critical thinking skills and the ability to concisely write on sometimes tight deadlines.
  • An advocate for diversity and inclusion
  • Experience working with P&L and annual operating budgets.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in marketing strategy for a zoo or aquarium of destination such as hotels or attractions and/or advertising agency, and/or brand management in corporate or non-profit space.
  • Experience leading and implementing strategic omni-channel marketing campaigns through lifecycle.
  • Language proficiency (Spanish desirable but not necessary)
  • Required Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, Business, Communications or Equivalent

Conditions of Work:

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Sitting at computer for extended periods of time; occasional standing, walking, bending, twisting, climbing, crawling, kneeling, reaching motions. Some lifting up to 50 lbs.

DISCOMFORT/RISKS: Occasional exposure to extreme heat, chemicals, and dust/airborne materials.

HOLIDAY WORK: Holiday and weekend work is required. Some evening work is required during special events and fundraising events.

TRAVEL: Conference and workshop attendance available. If funding is available some or all expenses will be paid.
