Responsibilities
JOB SUMMARY
This job is responsible for planning and implementing external communications activities for Virginia Mason Franciscan Health (VMFH) in accordance with professional standards and strategic business objectives. An incumbent develops and implements a proactive media relations function, including earned and owned media and identifies industry trends and develops proactive media pitches to assure VMFH is effectively represented as a thought leader.
Work includes:
- D eveloping and maintaining positive relationships with media outlets and influencers to facilitate positive coverage for the organization;
- Building out and implementing a robust editorial calendar based on VMFH strategic priorities;
- Working with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to develop effective pitches and owned content that effectively highlights VMFH as a leader in health care quality, outcomes and innovation;
- Drafting messaging materials (ie. press releases, pitches, fact sheets, briefing documents, communication plans, etc.);
- Providing content to VMFH blog posts and external channels; and
- Serving as a VMFH media contact.
Qualifications
Education/Work Experience Requirements
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Marketing, Journalism, English, Communications, Public Relations or related field, and four years of progressively responsible media relations work experience. Work experience in a health care setting or an agency with health care clients is preferred.
Additional qualifying work experience, on a year-for-year basis, may be substituted for the degree requirement.
