MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
For Senior Occupational Therapists candidates must be:
• Permanent service as a Sr. Occupational Therapist OR;
• Eligible to 70.1 transfer to a Sr. Occupational Therapist title, OR;
• Reachable on the current Civil Service List for Sr. Occupational Therapist, OR:
• Provisional appointment may be considered. To be eligible, you must be licensed and currently registered to practice Occupational Therapy in New York State AND have one year of post licensure occupational therapy experience.
For Occupational Therapist candidates must be eligible* for a limited permit OR have a license and current registration to practice Occupational Therapy in New York State.

After one year of satisfactory experience as an Occupational Therapist, you will be advanced to Senior Occupational Therapist without further examination.
Duties Description POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This Senior Occupational Therapist is a professional position requiring specialized education, experience, and licensure. The Senior OT must keep up on advances within the field and evidence-based practice. In addition, the clinician must be well versed in Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance billing standards, NY State practice act and active changes within the profession.
The Sr. OTR is a part of the Article 16 Clinic Team and is a related service resource for the residential interdisciplinary Teams within the 6 counties. The Sr. OT will work under the supervision of the Chief OT, and the Senior Occupational Therapist will be an active therapist working within a consultative service provision model via Article 16 Clinic and IPSIDD services. Under the medical model, the OT evaluates, plans, treats, trains, and provide plan oversight as needed and supports the teams to ensure the health and safety needs of the individuals are met.
Broome provides OT services to the people who live in SOIRAs, Family Care homes, as well as people supported by voluntary providers, live on their own within the communities, or live with family within the catchment area.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Help the Teams ensure the health and safety needs of the individuals are being met
• Supports the OT department and assists as needed to meet the needs of the many people we support
• Readily take on referrals and acts on OT referrals in a timely manner and performs Occupational Therapy-related Assessments relative to areas of clinical competency
• Thorough, effective, and timely documentation is necessary in this job. This will include E H R documentation as well as paper documentation until the DDSO transitions fully into E H R
• Be able to work independently as well as within a core group of therapists to meet the needs of the individuals that we serve
• Have knowledge and expertise in OT as a discipline and billing for services under Medicare, Medicaid, and Private insurances.
• Development of OT Treatment Plans or related recommendations to be carried out at home/day habs/programs & provide needed training and follow up as needed and document OTs efforts for the person(s) in E H R.
• Support the Teams within the catchment as a related service and document efforts
• If indicated, provision of direct OT services as needed based on Evidence Based Practice Approach as needed and will have treatment plans describing the treatment strategy, purpose, anticipated outcomes, and within the current insurance standards for billing including effective documentation skills.
• Facilitation of Community Based OT services as needed
• Training of staff/care providers/community supports on implementation of OT related plans/recommendations/routines, etc.
• Be able to assist the department in completing the Training requirements as established by the DDSO/Agency
• A diverse background in many treatment areas is desired but not necessary as we are willing to train specific to our OPWDD system and the unique needs of the individuals that we serve. Areas that OT assesses on a regular basis are as follows: Sensory Process/Regulation -Adult Population, Adaptive Dining Equipment and positioning during meals, Home and Safety assessments, wheelchair positioning and w/c procurement through insurance, Completing Environmental Modification Assessments within community.
• Work with other OT staff with Wheelchair Clinics. This may involve setting them up, tracking parts/requests into insurance and writing justification to obtain needed replacement parts, et cetera
• Determines need for adaptive equipment and other aids to improve functional skills and abilities and may design, adapt, and work with AE to fabricate such aids if need be.
• May participate in DDSOO Committees/Work Groups to represent the department and assist in meeting the goals of the groups
• Work with department(s) and Teams to meet the Health and Safety Needs of the people who support.
• As needed, help with emergent concerns as they arise.
