Purpose
This position provides support in pre-litigation and litigation matters to the consumer litigation/warranty legal team and other legal department personnel on an as-needed basis.
Major Responsibilities
~ Evaluate, investigate, and conduct settlement negotiations of consumer-related claims and lawsuits and ensure matters are expeditiously processed to protect company interests.
~ Communicate with dealers, Customer Experience Department and its vendors, outside/opposing counsel, and other business units to obtain all necessary documentation and information.
~ Evaluate, investigate, and analyze claims made in small claims and Attorney General complaints; appear and make arguments on behalf of the company at the small claims and Attorney General hearings.
~ Review and manage case closure activities to ensure timely resolutions and payment of settlements in pre-litigation and litigation matters, including working with outside counsel, opposing counsel, and Customer Experience Department and its vendors.
~ Help and conduct discovery (document, electronic and media-based), as needed.
~ Provide document management assistance in government investigations and recalls, as needed.
~ Maintain a high level of confidentiality when involved with projects or issues of a sensitive nature.
~ Maintain an efficient and organized work environment to effectively meet the daily needs and changing requests of litigation attorneys and paralegals.

Authority
~ Manage vendors, including outside law firms (ensure delivery of goods/services, monitor and drive performance, work to raise level of program effectiveness). Select/terminate and manage vendors in conjunction with Consumer Litigation team.
~ Support various HMA departments through obtaining feedback and suggestions for program improvements, and considering what changes are feasible and appropriate.
~ Position may be involved with interviewing/evaluation of new hires.
Education
~ Must be a high school graduate
~ Bachelor’s degree preferred
Related Experience
~ Three to four years of in-house or law firm experience
~ Litigation paralegal experience directly related to the automotive industry or consumer litigation.
Skills/Knowledge
~ Experience in MS Office 365 with emphasis in Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
~ Knowledge of legal terminology and procedures.
~ Superior organizational skills.
~ Strong computer background.
~ Multitasking and ability to perform with little or no direction.
~ Ability to interact with individuals from other departments.
Certification Required
~ Paralegal Certificate required
