WHY BOX NEEDS YOU
Box is looking for a senior paralegal experienced at handling Law Enforcement Responses (“LER”) and general litigation support. We are looking for an individual who is comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a broad range of responsibilities. This position will manage and/or contribute to a variety of tasks, projects, and processes, including managing Box’s responses to subpoenas and search warrants from law enforcements, review, report, and takedown Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM), Box’s response to civil subpoenas, assist with discovery and document requests from civil litigants and government authorities, and other strategic projects. You need to bring excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, sense of ownership, great business sense, a strong work ethic and a good sense of humor. You must have the ability to operate independently and drive projects, as well as to be a great teammate and work proactively with various teams across the organization, including Privacy, Customer and Product Support, the Product Security and Incident Response Team, Product Management, Engineering, Sales, Accounting & Finance, and People Operations.
The position reports to Box’s Head of LER and IP Legal.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Manage Box’s law enforcement and government request response process, including subpoenas and search warrants
- Work closely with other members of the Legal team to scrutinize and respond to law enforcement requests while upholding Box’s strong commitment to user privacy
- Review and verify reports of Child Sexual Abuse Materials (CSAM) materials being illegally hosted on Box
- Manage the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (“NCMEC”) report and takedown process
- Maintain records of Box’s response to legal process and work with cross-functional teams on related audits and certifications
- Work with the Privacy team to maintain and update Box’s Transparency report
- Build and scale processes related to law enforcement response process
- Monitor operations metrics and suggest efficiency improvements
- Manage and assist various Box Legal teams with responses to subpoenas, discovery and document requests
WHO YOU ARE
- Bachelor’s Degree
- At least 4 years of relevant work experience (though more than 4 years is welcome!), preferably at a recognized law firm and/or with an in-house legal team
- Expertise responding to law enforcement requests while upholding Box’s strong commitment to user privacy
- Expertise responding to data requests under the confines of the Stored Communications Act
- Experience responding to both domestic and international law enforcement requests
- Experience and willingness to review and verify CSAM materials before making NCMEC reports
- Experience working with NCMEC to review, report, and takedown CSAM materials
- Experience with the civil subpoena response process
- Experience with discovery support in response to a variety of litigation and governmental investigations
- Exceptional organizational and written and verbal communication skills
- Detail-oriented, self-starter, with strong project management skills and sense of ownership
- Excellent judgment and ability to manage and drive multiple projects simultaneously
- Must be a team player with outstanding interpersonal skills and good sense of humor, a strong work ethic and the highest level of integrity and business ethics
