Responsibilities

  • Work with Legal Department personnel to defend Rivian against claims, lawsuits, and allegations that bear on Rivian products.
  • Assist Legal Department personnel with the evaluation of matters that involve Rivian products.
  • Open, close, maintain, and otherwise manage case files on legal matters that involve Rivian products.
  • Develop and coordinate processes with respect to the internal handling of legal matters that involve Rivian products.
  • Assist in gathering information to create and respond to legal documents including pleadings, briefs, and other filings in matters that implicate Rivian products.
  • Assist legal team with responding to law enforcement and civil subpoenas, search warrants, and other data requests.
  • Assist legal team and outside counsel and experts to prepare for depositions, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Act as an information liaison between outside counsel, hired consultants, internal engineering groups, and case manager attorneys investigating and defending matters that involve Rivian products.
  • Assist legal team and outside counsel with responding to discovery, including drafting written responses and searching internal databases, files, and other internal sources for responsive information.
  • Attend depositions, mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials, as necessary.
  • Participate in case resolution meetings with outside counsel and in-house staff.
  • Communicate with customers with respect to decisions made by the Repurchase Compliance Program.
  • Assist senior leaders and field investigation personnel in legal, business, and engineering disciplines in incident investigation planning and logistics.
  • Analyze escalated customer concern review requests from Customer Engagement, Service, Quality, and other business teams and ensure their appropriate distribution among internal teams.
  • Manage the storage and distribution of Rivian vehicles allocated to the Product Defense team.
  • Interface with Rivian’s internal Enterprise Risk and Insurance Team on claims and litigation.

Qualifications

  • ABA paralegal certification or relevant bachelor’s degree.
  • 6+ years of experience working as a paralegal in a law firm, government, or in-house legal setting.
  • Ability to travel and represent the company in an unsupervised environment.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with various business teams, engineering disciplines, and legal personnel.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and rapidly changing environment.
  • Motivated by a team-oriented environment and working collaboratively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Solid experience with legal technology, including Microsoft eDiscovery, Purview, and other platforms.
  • This is what will make you stand out:
    • Law degree.
    • 6+ years of direct experience in the automotive industry.
    • Experience working with legal, business, and engineering teams at arbitrations and trials for an automotive OEM.
    • First-hand experience communicating with opposing counsel and customers on complex matters of legal significance.

Pay Disclosure

Hourly Range for Irvine, CA based applicants: $51/hour – $59/hour (Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location and other factors permitted by law).

Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
