The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking highly qualified analytical and critical-thinking individuals with professional-level payroll accounting experience.

Under general direction, coordinates and performs complex professional accounting work in the computation, posting, reconciling, monitoring, and reporting of payroll transactions; conducts analysis and projections of payroll information; assigns work and provides feedback to lower-level accounting, technical, and clerical employees.

The Well Qualified Candidate Will Possess the Following

Knowledge:

  • Principles of federal and state statutes, codes, laws, regulations, bargaining labor agreements related to payroll and benefit processing, calculations, and reporting requirements
  • Principles, practices, and procedures of payroll and personnel processing
  • Generally accepted accounting principles, methods, and practices
  • Principles and practices of integrated business systems
  • Microsoft Office Word, Outlook, and Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Principles of employee selection, supervision, training and performance evaluations
  • Fundamental concepts of employment laws, codes, and regulations, including EEO, FLSA, FMLA, and Cal/OSHA and applicable provisions of collective bargaining agreements

Required Education and ExperienceEducation: A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 24 semester or 36 quarter verifiable college coursework units in accounting from an institution of higher learning accredited by a regional accrediting organization recognized by the Council of Higher Education Accreditation. Foreign degrees and credit units require translation and equivalency established by an agency recognized by the Commission on Teacher Credentialing.

Experience: Two years of experience calculating, posting, reconciling, and reporting payroll information or one year of experience as a Payroll Accountant with the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

Additional Requirements: A valid California driver’s license and the availability of private transportation or the ability to obtain transportation between job sites may be required.

Hybrid remote schedules may be available.

Selection ProcessCandidates who meet the minimum requirements above will be invited to participate in an examination that may consist of a Written Examination, Performance Examination and Structured Interview.
