POSITION TITLE: Senior Philanthropy Writer
POSITION SUMMARY:
Scripps Research seeks a dynamic and highly skilled Senior Philanthropy Writer to join our award-winning marketing and communications team. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Collaborate with the senior leadership and institute scientists to develop and refine fundraising messaging and materials that resonate with our target audiences.
- Write and edit persuasive fundraising proposals, whitepapers, case statements, and other materials working closely with institute leadership and ensuring alignment with the organization’s goals and values.
- Capture the tone of voice of the president for individual and mass communications advancing fundraising goals.
- Develop a deep understanding of our scientific endeavors to effectively communicate complex subjects in clear and compelling terms.
- Assist in the ideation and execution of strategic communications initiatives to enhance the organization’s visibility and impact.
- Support materials design as part of the final execution of fundraising communications.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to ensure our communications reflect current best practices in science communication and philanthropy writing.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in science a plus.
- Strong background in philanthropy writing for scientific initiatives, with a demonstrated ability to comprehend and communicate complex scientific topics.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in philanthropy writing focused on scientific initiatives, preferably within a university or scientific institute.
- Proven track record of producing compelling written materials that resonate with high-level donors and stakeholders.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic environment, exhibiting nimbleness and adaptability in response to evolving priorities and needs.
- Detail-oriented, with a commitment to accuracy and excellence.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
May include: Stationary position for an extended period of time, traverse campus/facility as needed, operate machinery such as computer, phone, copy machine; exposure to cold or hot temperatures.
COMPENSATON:
The expected hiring range for this position is $90,000 to $115,000/annually, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
