Bonfire is seeking a creative Sr. Environment Concept Artist who will bring vision and inspiration to our new original IP. Our ideal candidate is excited about creating immersive environments and has a good understanding of architecture from many eras as well as organic environments. Bonfire Studios is a highly collaborative, cross-disciplinary environment where every developer’s voice shapes the company, the game, and the tasks we work on each day. This role is anticipated to be a hybrid work position, with some work on-site at our Irvine, California studio and some work-from-home. However, we understand each person’s circumstances may be unique, and will work with you to explore other possible options, including remote work arrangements.
About the role…
- You will create awe-inspiring concept art for environments and props, which includes everything from loose thumbnail sketches to polished key art.
- Create engaging and alluring environment concepts that immerse players into our world while guiding the 3D artists in executing the idea in a game engine.
- You will develop mood boards, lighting keys, color scripts, screenshot paint-overs, BlueSky ideation, line art, callout sheets, storyboarding and graphic design.
- Collaborate with the Art Director, Artists, Designers, and Engineers on developing a creative solution for visually complex features that results in drawing players deeper into a world.
- You will create redline notes for the 3D artist, taking game levels to a higher fidelity for the production.
- You’ll wear many hats, have ample opportunity to utilize your prior experience as a Concept Artist, and also be supported in experimenting with new areas of interest to you.

- You are an exceptional individual contributor, but you have also taken the lead on some projects.
A little something extra…
- Knowledge of standard 3D software such as Zbrush, Maya, Modo, 3ds, or Blender to facilitate concept creation.
- Are able to tell full-scene character focus story through their illustration.
- Can work with outsourcing to provide feedback on the concepts and 3d models
- Have 7+ years in the games or film industry working on character, creatures, and props designs in past projects.
- Have familiarity with tools that can help keep track of the latest concepts and help streamline the production
- Are able to learn new tools and game engines quickly.

The base salary range for this position is $148,600 – $236,133. The range doesn’t tell the whole story – we are always open to candidates at different stages in their careers and consider candidates’ potential impact holistically, not just their years of experience or skill level.
