NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs
If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.
If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
Salary Range
$88,600 – $172,300
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking to hire a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to support our Infrastructure Engineering Team! In this role you will provide strategic direction for life cycle asset management of the system, including the recapitalization, operations and maintenance (O&M), and processes for our Natural Gas system.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Review project designs, develop outage plans (sequence of operations for natural gas outages), and resolve any operations issues.
- Develop asset management strategies and maintain a comprehensive lifecycle asset management plan for the assigned system and support our project development and planning organizations.
- Work within the team environment to develop and implement condition assessment strategies that use existing processes and resources where feasible.
- Coordinate with maintenance team leaders to develop a maintenance program for the system to include, where necessary, recommend training for maintenance personnel.
- Maintain site wide computer model(s) for the natural gas system.
- Participate in developing and updating procedures and processes with a focus on improving operations interfacing with the process coordinators.
- Serve as domain expert for assigned specialty systems or focus areas with our organization.
- Review and validate monthly natural gas metering data and provide metering reports.
- Consult with SNL management on energy use, contracts, and issues.
This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.
Qualifications We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, or other relevant discipline from an ABET accredited institution plus 5 years of relevant experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE L-level security clearance.
Qualifications We Desire
- NM Professional Engineering (PE) license or Engineer in Training (EIT) certificate or ability to obtain a Professional Engineer license within 3-years.
- 49 CFR Part 192 – Transportation of Natural and Other Gas by Pipeline
- International Mechanical Code, National Mechanical Safety Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, Life Safety Code, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Architectural Barriers Act.
- Experience with operations and design of infrastructure mechanical systems, natural gas, and liquified propane gas systems.
- Experience doing Natural Gas System Analysis with the ability to learn Synergi Gas modeling software.
- Experience using Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to prioritize and complete tasks in a high-pressure environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Experience working in a team environment with the ability to develop and nurture internal customer relationships.
- Ability to plan, organize, lead, and monitor team efforts to completion.

The Infrastructure Engineering Department provides a comprehensive perspective of Operations and Engineering support for Sandia/NM site infrastructure systems and primary utility systems. We provide support to our mission partners related to site activities, determination of new project needs, and engineering solutions. Our department supports excavation and penetration activities as well as Facilities Graphic Information System (FGIS) support for Sandia/NM Facilities and Infrastructure systems.
