At Sandia, you will be part of collaborative teams that make an impact on the nation and the world! We are seeking a highly motivated S&E Project Manager to join our team! In this role you will plan and execute complex science and/or engineering projects requiring hi-rigor management. You will address both technical and non-technical risks, opportunities, and other issues that impact the project; and recommend changes to improve engineering and project management processes.
As the Technical Project Manager, you will:
Lead
- Lead cross functional teams of scientists and engineers, project management professionals, and business staff in a matrix-type organization
- Develop and lead delivery of a future vision with a dedicated team of project personnel and partner with the extended project team, including customers, sponsors, and suppliers, to ensure that the project is fully and properly integrated
- Advance project management capabilities by understanding the science and technology behind nuclear deterrence and developing mitigations for the mission project needs
- Develop, define, and execute project plans, schedules, budgets, and deliverables
- Ensure technical and programmatic decisions regarding the direction of a project and uphold accountability for the results of those decisions
- Lead the technical project work for ND Operations in assurance support of ES&H, Safeguards & Security, and Facilities and Infrastructure to meet the programmatic needs of the centers
Influence
- Proven ability to establish improved ways for interfacing and coordinating specific deliverables to align plans, seek necessary approvals, and help develop capabilities to ensure nuclear deterrence
- Demonstrate strategic and conceptual thinking skills and creativity in approach; champions understanding of the requirements and specifications of the ND organizations for space/facilities; the respective security, operational, safety, and environmental constraints; and (in collaboration with the aligned facilities support) forecasts and proposes the development, redevelopment, or elimination of capabilities dependent upon that understanding
- Plan and execute strategy plans, reporting, and partnering across Sandia with technical experts to realize program objectives
- Own and advance truly unique projects to resolve the nation’s most challenging issues
Collaborate
- Works in peer-level relationship with the project technical leads to oversee project management activities including project plan development and execution, project monitoring and control, and integrated change control for large, complex and high-rigor projects
- Depending on size and complexity of project (s), may oversee work of technical and other project management staff, including project managers and/or project controllers
- Ability to establish advanced sustainable networks across the Laboratory complex. Develop and maintain effective partnerships and general knowledge of peer organizations and with the other internal and external mission customers and partners
- This position is eligible for telecommuting and the selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary
Salary Range
$101,400 – $201,400
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related STEM field plus 5 or more years of relevant technical experience
- Current PMP certification or equivalent certification, or the ability to obtain within 12 months
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q or equivalent clearance
Qualifications We Desire
- Master’s degree in Engineering or related STEM field
- At least 3 years of project management experience
- Active DOE L or Q Clearance
- Experience directly supporting and/or providing directional influence of Nuclear Deterrence Programs (ND)
- Experience planning, executing, monitoring and controlling of safety and security, facilities and infrastructure, ES&H objectives
- Experience in the analysis, design, development, and implementation of technical, performance-based assurance within ND applications
- Experience in developing lean strategies and/or executing strategic operational plans
- Experience working as a service provider with a strong customer focus and developing trust-based partnerships
About Our Team
Org. 00360, ND Operations and Strategic planning provides oversight and directional influence, using engineering operations and Nuclear Deterrence (ND) expertise, to define and negotiate system requirements that enable mission function and performance, on ND Environment Health and Safety (ES&H), Safeguards and Security (S&S), Facilities and Infrastructure (F&I), Human Resources (HR) and related Strategic Laboratory ND Operations items. Org. 00360 strives to achieve assurance and operation excellence in partnership with Mission enabling Divisions for active operations and strategic planning efforts. This is achieved through using a holistic approach and partnering with mission enabling organizations to meet ND’s current and future mission requirements through horizontal integration with Org. 00003 – ND Deputy Labs Director and Chief Technology Officer, Division 02000 – ND Modernization and Future System and Division 07000 – ND Stockpile Management, Components & Production.
