Employees of the Department of Financial Services are paid on a monthly pay cycle.

Minimum Qualifications for this position include the following REQUIRED ENTRY LEVEL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge and proven abilities of accounting principles, practices, and procedures. Knowledge of the methods of data collection. Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of accounting records. Ability to analyze and interpret accounting data. Ability to create and utilize existing spreadsheet applications with thorough knowledge and proficiency in Excel. Must be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage competing deadlines. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures relating to an accounting program. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to work independently yet cohesively within the section to maintain internal control measures. Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
This position works in within the Taxation Reconciliation Section in the Bureau of State Payrolls. This section is responsible for the reporting and remittance of all payroll taxes.
This position’s duties require knowledge of and ability to work with the application of professional accounting techniques to fiscal transactions.
Specific Duties include:
- Analysis of and working directly with FLAIR systems.
- Audit and initiate FRS adjustments requested by the Division of Retirement and State agencies. Maintain accurate and detailed records of adjustments.
- Perform daily/monthly reconciliations and post audits of the employment tax trust funds following established procedures.
- Initiate journal transactions and vouchers within FLAIR.
- Interface with the agencies to ensure the correct processing of transactions.
- Assists with the timeliness and accuracy of payroll tax deposits to the IRS.
- Responsible for the audit of employment tax refunds and collections requested by agencies. Audit requests from agencies for annuity, deferred compensation, medical care reimbursement account refunds and dependent care refunds, and ensuring proper remitting and reporting of payroll taxes. Initiate record updates, payments and collections as required.
- Independently answer tax and payroll phone calls as needed.
