Public Engagement Division, Advocacy Alliances and Policy division with a focus on Campaigns, Government Relations and Public Policy, and Private Sector Departments.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The Senior Program Advisor for Worker Justice will work with Oxfam staff, external partners, national and regional allies, and stakeholders in the Southeast to organize and mobilize support for multi-stakeholder collaborations, coalitions, rights-based campaigns, and advocacy initiatives that further economic, racial, and gender justice for low wage workers. The Senior Program Advisor will help conceptualize broad advocacy and policy initiatives that address worker’s rights and build power and take the lead on implementation of selected initiatives. They will support other Oxfam America staff in their advocacy-related work and serve as liaison to other departments in contribution to agency goals of broadening our constituency in the Southeast and among workers and unions.
The Senior Program Advisor will build strategic alliances and relationships with mission-aligned organizations, advocacy groups, worker justice centers, coalitions, and unions to address various labor-related challenges faced by low wage workers in different industries, ensuring their voices are heard by policymakers and employers. This position will focus on immigrants, people of color, women, and constituents that are disproportionately impacted by inequitable labor policies.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide leadership and strategic support in the conceptualization, design, and execution of targeted advocacy initiatives and collaborations that support USDP’s strategic goals.
• Develop timeline and process for implementing USDP’s strategic framework for worker’s rights, worker power and worker justice.
• Collaborate with finance specialist and director for planning annual budget allocations for partner grants, convenings and trainings.
• Share learning and best practices within the agency.
Policy Advocacy
• Stay updated on federal and state labor laws, regulations, shifts and advocacy opportunities in the labor movement, and other proposed national and sectoral changes that impact or pertain to workers’ rights and economic justice.
• Collaborate with worker justice centers, labor unions, stakeholder organizations, and other advocacy groups to develop and advocate for equitable Federal and state policies.
• Engage OUS’ national and state strategic partners in legislative advocacy to support Federal and state bills that address labor rights, worker protections, safety, increased wages, and other relevant issues impacting the economic security of low wage workers with a focus on women of color and immigrant workers.
• Collaborate with the Senior Domestic Policy Advisor and Senior Policy Advisor, SE Region, to strategize and align Federal and state policy advocacy.
Private Sector Advocacy
• Stay updated on labor laws, industry trends, employment practices, wage levels, working conditions, and workplace policies in private sector.
• Stay abreast on private sector advocacy work to identify opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
Coalition Building and Networks
• Build strategic alliances with mission-aligned organizations, community groups, and policymakers to strengthen advocacy efforts.
• Coordinate with Oxfam International to engage OUS’ partners and allies in the global worker’s rights movement and highlight partner’s stories and overall best practices.
Partner Support and Engagement
• Oversee grant applications, grantmaking and reporting with partners.
• Engage partners in internal and external planning and capacity building activities in economic justice and other related advocacy initiatives.
• Support the design, development, and coordination of Oxfam support for partner-led and state-specific campaigns.
• Provide support to OUS and the Economic Justice Campaign team on worker justice projects, including serving as the liaison for partner and ally engagement.
Research and Data Analysis
• Conduct research and scoping following Oxfam protocols using a race and gender lens to inform advocacy strategies and proposals that consider the interconnectedness of labor policy with climate, food, and other systems that impact the economic security of working families.
• Serve as liaison between partners and allies and OUS public engagement team in story gathering and the development of public outreach and campaigning materials.

• Must be able to travel up to 40% of the time in support of work; some evening and weekend work may be required.
• Experience in worker justice issues including work with grassroots organizations serving low wage workers, people of color, and immigrants.
Hiring Range $87,000- $90,000
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Advanced degree in political science, public policy, sociology, development, anthropology, or a related field; or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training.
EXPERIENCE AND CORE COMPETENCIES
1.Minimum 4 to 6 years relevant experience in social justice organizing; public policy, or political campaigning.
2.Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, work under pressure situations, and communicate in diverse environments.
3.Demonstrated ability to manage and work within complex multi-functional projects and teams.
4.Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking.
5.Demonstrated ability to network across geographical, thematic, and institutional spectrums.
PREFERRRED QUALIFICATIONS
• An understanding of and familiarity with the economic, political, and social rights issues in the US and regionally, in the Southeast.
• Competency in written and oral Spanish.
• Experience in both policy advocacy campaigning and coalition work.
• Experience in analysis of risk in the context of advocacy work and alliances with other organizations.
