The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention (SCHARP) at Fred Hutch is a full service statistical and data management center focused on HIV prevention research. SCHARP has an annual budget of over $40 million, more than 180 employees and is currently managing over 40 active phase I – III clinical trials in over 150 clinical sites around the world. SCHARP is seeking a Senior Program and Portfolio Manager.

The Senior Program and Portfolio Manager, represents the Statistical Center for HIV / AIDS Research and Prevention (SCHARP) to the client/partner. Serves as the primary liaison between the client/partner and SCHARP. The individual will be a self-starter with excellent leadership and organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to articulate strategic objectives of their client’s research portfolio. The SCHARP Senior Program and Portfolio Manager has the responsibility to provide program and portfolio management support for assigned client(s)/partner(s).

Responsibilities

May include some or all of the following:

  • Serve as primary SCHARP operational liaison between assigned client(s), research partner(s) and SCHARP leadership and staff.
  • Oversee interdependent projects and support SCHARP project teams to develop, maintain and execute an integrated project delivery strategy for involving one or more programs.
  • Collaborate with client/ partner and SCHARP leadership to identify and communicate scope of work, timelines, budget, and resource requirements associated with any new contracts, projects, studies deliverables or study modifications.
  • Engage with the client/partner to stay informed on client/partner leadership decisions and recognize potential budget and operational implications.
  • Collaborate with SCHARP study team leads to resolve study issues, escalating to SCHARP senior management when appropriate.
  • Contribute to preparation of grant applications and annual progress reports in collaboration with SCHARP leadership and assigned client(s)/partner(s).
  • Work with SCHARP project teams and external client leadership to develop study operational plans, conduct risk assessments and contingency planning to drive successful execution of each project and protocol.
  • In conjunction with functional representation, participate in protocol review meetings to help identify new/novel data collection requirements and the impact on resource effort in collaboration with SCHARP leadership and project teams.
  • Responsible for communicating regular program, study, and project status updates to the client and SCHARP leadership.
  • Contribute to the functional excellence of the team by participation in the development and continuous improvement of processes, procedures, and tools related to program and portfolio management practices.
  • Actively facilitate meetings, interactions and communication among stakeholders both internal and external.
  • Apply project management expertise, methodologies, and department standards to help maintain the program specific roadmap for key research protocol and product needs.
  • Establish and maintain positive working relationships and open communication with key stakeholders. Obtain feedback from assigned client(s)/partner(s) about SCHARP services to influence continuous improvement.
  • Provide client/partner input collaborating with SCHARP representatives in development of and implementing policies, SOPs, and Work Instructions.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduate Degree with 5+ years’ experience in the life sciences, research, healthcare, or related industry or a Bachelor Degree with 7+ years’ experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory or management experience.
  • Excellent time management, and planning skills, a self-starter, well-organized, solutions-oriented, and focused on results.
  • Exceptional team player with excellent relationship building, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams in a matrixed organization.
  • Experience with project management and capable of managing multiple projects independently.
  • Good understanding of clinical research operations, data management, and data analytic organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for bridging between scientific and business stakeholders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Doctoral Degree with at least 5 years’ management experience in a pharmaceutical, CRO, biotech or life sciences research organizations.
  • Advanced knowledge of regulatory and clinical research business requirements.
  • Professional Project Management Certification.

The annual base salary range for this position is from $109,637.00 to $173,264.00, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
