Senior project engineer- geotechnical

Job Description

Mott MacDonald is currently seeking a senior project engineer – geotechnical to support out Infrastructure Advisory Services division in our Arlington, VA office. As a senior geotechnical engineer, your duties will include:

  • Lead a team of geotechnical engineers and technicians, providing guidance, mentoring, and technical expertise.
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary projects and interact with clients, other engineering disciplines and other stakeholders to develop geotechnical designs and solutions that align with project requirements.
  • Manage and oversee geotechnical engineering projects, ensuring adherence to project schedule, budget, and technical requirements.
  • Prepare geotechnical investigations programs, including soil sampling, laboratory testing, and analysis of geotechnical data. Perform site visits as needed.
  • Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, including design and analyses related
    to the geotechnical design elements as applicable.
  • Prepare project specifications.
  • Prepare risk assessments and provide recommendations for mitigating geotechnical hazards.
  • Review and interpret geotechnical data, laboratory reports, and engineering plans to ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements, industry standards and regulations.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in geotechnical engineering practices and technologies and incorporate them into project designs and solutions.

Candidate Specification

We’re looking for an individual to join our team to continue this and invite applications from candidates with:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field; Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Virginia and DC or the possibility to obtain one through reciprocity.
  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, with a focus on project management, team building and leadership.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing multiple geotechnical projects simultaneously, meeting project milestones and deliverables, in both DBB and alternative delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical principles, soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and ground improvement techniques.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software and analysis tools such as Plaxis, Slope/W, gINT, or similar is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical information to clients, team members, and stakeholders.
  • Experience in conducting geotechnical investigations, fieldwork, and laboratory testing.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards

Salary Range: $130,000 – $155,000
