Job Description

The ideal candidate for this position is passionate about securing research, technology, or data from weaponization and misuse and has extensive successful experience managing international projects and teams. The Senior Project Lead will leverage project management best practices to lead teams, develop and implement effective program and project management processes, develop relationships with international stakeholders, and implement international capacity-building programming for the research and academic sector, public sector, and private sector globally. Activities under the oversight of the Senior Project Lead may take the form of workshops, trainings, conferences, meetings, grant-making, fellowships, research competitions, email campaigns, or other activities, both in-person and virtual. Under the supervision of the Program Manager, the Senior Project Lead will manage the technical, financial, and administrative aspects of a program to meet CRDF Global and funder objectives.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Provides oversight and support to a team of up to six Project Leads and support staff to implement international research, data, and technology security programming, including project assignments and managing workflows
  • Serves as the liaison for internal units to execute projects on scope, schedule, and budget
  • Trains and guides program personnel on development and execution of project plans using project management best practices that may include charters, work breakdown structures, risk management plans, schedules, monitoring and evaluation plans, and project budgets
  • Leads development and growth of relationships with international stakeholders (grantees, partner organizations, etc) in the academic sector, public sector, and private sector and provides guidance to project teams to successfully do the same.
  • Leads agreement/contract kick-off, modification, and closeout processes on behalf of the program team
  • Serves as proposal manager for new business or on-contract growth opportunities within the program area
  • Assists the Program Manager and Program Financial Analyst in conducting project budget forecasting and program financial management
  • Assists the Program Manager in developing and tracking program key performance indicators and associated metrics
  • Supports communication and coordination efforts across the integrated program team, including the Travel & Logistics, Contracts, Sub-Contracts, Purchasing, and Grants functions.
  • Supervises staff, including recruiting, hiring, and on-boarding; manages their workload and establishes work and development goals; and provides feedback on performance standards
  • Supports other programs and staff, as required

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience managing projects required; preference for experience managing international capacity-building or international development projects
  • Minimum 3 years of experience supervising personnel
  • Demonstrated experience using and training or guiding others on project management processes, including scheduling, risk management, stakeholder management, and financial management
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Strong multitasking skills with the ability to prioritize tasks
  • Exceptional time-management and organizational skills
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Competency and experience with using virtual collaboration platforms including web[1]conferencing and file sharing applications
  • Preferred: Background in, experience with, or knowledge of any relevant topics in areas including WMD nonproliferation, advanced and emerging technologies (such as artificial intelligence/machine learning, robotics, or biotechnologies/synthetic biology), cybersecurity, research security/research compliance, and responsible science/ethics.
  • Preferred: PMP or equivalent certification/training.

Salary & Benefits: The base pay range for this position is $75,000 to $105,840. The determination of salaries in this job classification depend on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, relevant candidate experience, job-related knowledge, qualifications and skills.
