Job Overview:
The Sr. Project Specialist is part of a policy team working on a variety of projects, with special emphasis on two flavored tobacco elimination projects. This person is responsible for helping develop project goals and ensuring that deliverables are achieved in accordance with quarterly and annual goals. In this role, the Specialist will track policies from across the country focused specifically on tobacco and LGBTQ+ issues, they will support coalition and network-building efforts and coordinate different policy initiatives. In collaboration with the Network team, the Specialist is responsible for promoting the Network’s initiatives through the identification of and outreach to potential and existing partners.

Some, but not all of responsibilities:
Project Management
- Reviewing project scope and timelines.
- Making sure all project objectives and scope are clearly defined, documented and communicated to stakeholders.
- Regular checkins with stakeholders and teams.
- Utilization of project management tools.
- Works with the Policy Counsel to set measurable and actionable policy project goals.
- Meet project goals in a timely manner.
- Distributes Network resources to state-level partners to support local tobacco policy initiatives.
- Tracks efforts for measuring activities and updates databases and documents of network connections and active policies regularly.
- Monitors cancer and/or data policy initiatives to identify action points
Human Resources, Team Management and Culture
- Recognizes when change is needed or opportunities could be grasped, and communicates those needs.
- Partake in the hiring process.
- May partake in management of student interns.
- Upholds, nurtures, and effectively promotes a values-centric culture.
- Leverage feedback and turns it into action.
Learning and Development
- Continuously practice self-learning and professional development.
- Continuously digest the latest research, policies, and other information.
- Comprehensive needs assessment is conducted to identify learning gaps and training requirements.
- Provides up-to-date training in focus area to community members and stakeholders.
Comunication and Reporting
- Stakeholders are informed of any project deviations or issues promptly.
- Participate in frequent meetings and touch points with staff and stakeholders.
- Strategies for reaching various stakeholder groups are defined and implemented.
- Regular project status updates are created for stakeholders as per the communication plan.
Funder Compliance
- Track and document all project expenditures.
- Project evaluation reports.
- Constantly reporting out through proper channels changes and deviations within the project.
Logistics
- Communicates effectively in coordination and scheduling of meetings, travel, and events.
- Master the technical needs of managing virtual meetings for both small and large meetings or events.
- Perform regular updates of databases, collecting information to meet project objectives.
Partner Relations
- Supports grassroots organizing activities in key areas of the country, including strategizing and mobilizing key stakeholders to engage on the topic
- Maintain timely communication with project partners.
- Participates in ongoing coalition calls to monitor and identify action points
- Follow through on commitments made with partners and meet deadlines laid out.
- Deploys different methods of engaging stakeholders in policy change, including: sign-on letters, storytelling, direct testimony, opeds, and educational ads.
Requirements
- Master’s degree + two years in the field or equivalent professional experience
- Proven history of meeting project goals in a timely manner
- Demonstrated experience with LGBTQ+ organizing and direct service programming
- Demonstrated facility with web platforms, including Constant Contact, Airtable, Microsoft, and Google Suites
- Strong interpersonal, writing, and computer skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a growing team, manage details, and meet established deadlines
- Experience with project management software
Benefits
The salary range for this position has been benchmarked in relation to the scope of the role, funding, and market rate. The base salary for this role will be between $70,000 – $80,000. Where a candidate falls within the band is determined by skillset, experience level, and geographic location. Furthermore, this role will have a total compensation package with competitive benefits.
