Position Summary
Under general direction, the Senior Prospect Development Analyst is responsible for providing best in class prospect research, portfolio management, and related prospect development services to specific fundraising units within the Prospect Development team’s liaison structure. This position will primarily focus on providing information to maximize the philanthropic potential of the DU prospect pool through major ($50K+) and leadership gift-level ($1M+) prospect identification, prospect research, data analysis, portfolio management and optimization, and related services in support of effective fundraising programs and activities.
Essential Functions
- Serve as liaison to specific fundraisers and units to inform portfolio and pipeline strategy. Conduct portfolio reviews and manage portfolio optimization process including creation, segmentation, and strategy.
- Conduct prospect pool, portfolio, and/or pipeline analysis for informed recommendation and assist in the overall management of DU’s prospect pool.
- Assist the Director of Prospect Development with specific projects for University Campaign as needed.
- Use prospecting tools such as data screening and modeling, including new models developed in collaboration with Advancement partners, to provide analyses of targeted groups and overall prospect pool to better prioritize major and leadership gift prospects.
- Perform prospect identification and research for development officers focused on major gift prospects ($50K+) by analyzing and interpreting biographic, business, and financial information on individuals and/or foundations and corporations, including interpreting liquidity events and their relevance to solicitation strategies and timing, based on the University’s fundraising strategies and objectives.
- Prepare accurate, clear, and concise research profiles and briefings to communicate relevant prospect research that advances the qualification, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors to major gift officers.
- Help to oversee the timely and accurate entry of key prospect management information (e.g., news articles about alumni, updated employment and philanthropic information, obituaries, etc.) into the CRM, communicating this information to key stakeholders as necessary.
- Provide training to development officers in designated units as needed.
- Work with the Director of Prospect Development to set strategic goals for the Prospect Development team.
- Serve as a resource to Prospect Development Analysts in providing guidance and advice on practical application of prospect research and portfolio management concepts and best practices; provide subject matter expertise for one or more advanced prospect research topics.
- Serve as an active and collaborative partner to all central and unit-based advancement functions and campus colleagues to foster strategic, effective, and collaborative advancement practices.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proven research and analytical techniques, emphasizing the ability to gather, evaluate and synthesize data and information from various sources and present information in a clear and cohesive manner.
- Knowledge of current trends in philanthropy and higher education as well as advanced analytical and research skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to present information in formal and informal settings and impart understanding of complex ideas to others.
- Displays and demonstrates overall knowledge of prospect development, including prospect identification, research and management, as well as data analysis, querying and reporting.
- Proven ability to deal with confidential matters with tact and sensitivity.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to strategic discussions, connecting the science of research with the art of relationship building.
- Expertise in industry-standard sources of data; familiarity with databases such as LexisNexis for Development Professionals (LNDP), ResearchPoint, iWave, Foundation Directory, Rel-Sci, desired.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience (Veterans with equivalent combination of military certification/education and experience may substitute for the degree qualification).
- 3 years in research, tracking or data analysis with success in understanding internal and external clients needs and ability to translate needs into viable resources for clientele.
- Management experience, to include projects or personnel
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in a related field
- Experience working in higher education, political, or non-profit.
- Membership with Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA), Association for Advancement Services Professionals (AASP), Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or other related professional organization.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is 10.
Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$70,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
