We are the Security and Governance (S&G) team within the Azure Databases organization and our mission is to offer the most secure database services on the planet – from on-premises data centers to the cloud. The S&G team focuses on developing and shipping industry-leading, differentiated security capabilities such as Always Encrypted or SQL Ledger.
We are looking for a Principal Product Manager with a proven track record in security and secure Software Development Lifecycle (SDL) to help us develop innovative security and data governance features for our operational data stores. You will collaborate with our customer base to gather requirements and evangelize our security capabilities to ensure the adoption of our features and services. As part of the role, you will help drive product strategy and lead platform security initiatives to ensure our services are leading the industry. In addition to having a passion for technology, we are you should also thrive on educating customers and helping them solve their most complex security challenges. Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
- This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred/Additional Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience with relational and/or NoSQL data management systems
- Professional experience with cryptography, data governance solutions, threat modelling, or vulnerability assessments
- Proven experience defining enterprise security strategies for cloud adoption
Product Management IC5 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $133,600 – $256,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $173,200 – $282,200 per year.

Responsibilities:
- Help articulate vision for security team.
- Define and ship new features and capabilities to strengthen the security and compliance portfolio of database service offerings and improve the security of our services.
- Evangelize the security capabilities of our services through workshops, conference presentations, as well as on social media channels.
- Help customers develop proof-of-concept implementations to assess the security posture of our services.
- Assess and evaluate emerging trends in IT security, information protection, and data governance and educate our team.
- Drive consistency in the security portfolio across our services.
- Ensure the data our customers entrust in our services is safe and managed in a compliant manner.
- Integrate with the latest foundational security and data governance technologies provided by our partner teams such as Azure Key Vault for key management, Azure Identity for modern authentication, or Microsoft Purview for data governance.
