Senior Research Leader – Economic Forecasting

The Economics Research Center develops and publishes research and analysis on economics trends of interest to a business audience, including a quarterly forecast of the US Economy; partners with firm leadership to assist with firm planning; and serves as a frequent speaker at Deloitte and client events. As part of the larger Research & Insights organization, this individual will have the opportunity to collaborate with other industry, cross-industry, data science, and publishing professionals. We are seeking a full-time forecasting and macroeconomist lead to produce the US Economic forecast and accompanying report. This quarterly report is among the most viewed of all Deloitte publications and is a key strategic input to Deloitte’s planning. In addition to being responsible for the forecast, this individual will identify and develop several short research reports on topics of current economic interest that will be published over the course of the year and prepare a weekly report summarizing the week’s economic data releases for the CFO and her team. This individual will also be expected to present in-person and virtually on the economic outlook at various events.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Economics, with Ph.D. highly preferred
  • 6 – 10+ years of relevant professional experience in producing economic forecasts of the US
  • A record of producing quality economic research relevant to a business audience

Subject Matter Qualifications

  • In depth knowledge of the US economy and macroeconomic theory
  • Facility with quantitative modeling with an emphasis on forecasting

Research Qualifications

  • Strong writing and editorial skills with proven ability to translate research into client perspectives and concerns.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Ability to translate macro trends into industry-specific insights
  • A strategic understanding of how economics might inform specific client problems and the potential internal and external audiences for this analysis
  • Ability to interpret of statistical results and experience in analytical methods, including statistical software/visualization tools such as SPSS, ® STATA, R, or Tableau

  • Strong people skills and communication skills with an ability to relate industry trends to the strategic thinking of senior business executives (internal and external)
  • Strong stakeholder management skills
  • Public speaking experience, virtually and in-person
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Self-starter, independent thinker and resourceful
  • Ability to work effectively with others, many of whom may be geographically remote
  • Collegial and team-oriented; willing to pitch in and “wear many hats”
  • Ability to prioritize and perform multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Coaching capabilities, particularly around economics and the research and writing process
  • Ideal candidate located in east or central time zones including the following major cities: Boston, NYC, DC, Houston, Cleveland, Detroit, Atlanta, Chicago, Charlotte.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $124,600 – $296,100.
