Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for building energy models, conducting energy audits, and providing green building consulting and verification for multifamily apartment buildings and assisted living facilities.
  • Generates whole-building ASHRAE energy simulation models on multifamily buildings and assisted living facilities to produce detailed reporting on the energy usage, energy benchmarking, energy savings opportunities, and compliance with green building standards, codes, 179D Tax Deduction and green financing programs.
  • Consults with developers, design teams, and clients on the design requirements to meet green building standards for certification with programs such as the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) and ENERGY STAR Multifamily New Construction.
  • Perform on-site building and property inspections for energy auditing and green building verification. Inspections include visual assessment and field interviews with property management.
  • Communicates effectively with management and clients regarding project and/or site-specific issues.
  • Schedule and coordinate field inspections to meet client and project timelines.
  • Make travel arrangements to complete field inspections and timely competition and submittal of all required expense forms.

Requirements:

  • Experience using whole building energy modeling software such as eQuest, EnergyPlus, Trane Trace, Trane 3D Plus, Carrier HAP or other similar software, and working knowledge of American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standard ASHRAE 90.1
  • Possess ASHRAE Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), Association of Energy Engineers Building Energy Simulation Analyst (BESA) or Professional Engineer credentials.
  • ASHRAE Level I/II energy auditing experience.
  • Excellent technical report writing skills and computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft office, specifically excel, word, and outlook).
  • Analytical thinker with the ability to evaluate data / information carefully and to solve problems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with team members.
  • Strong organizational skills, ability to work independently, and willingness to learn.

Qualifications (Preferred):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, architecture, sustainability or similar courses of study is preferred. Candidates that do not possess a degree must have substantially the same knowledge level gained through a combination of work experience and technical instruction.
  • Preferred past work experience includes, but not limited to: green building consulting, construction project management, construction supervision, general contractors and licensed trade professionals.
  • Possess RESNET Home Energy Rater (HERS) certification and/or Green Building Credentials such as BPI-MFBA, NGBS Green Verifier, ENERGY STAR rater, LEED-AP, EarthCraft Technical Advisor, etc.
  • Experience with performing building diagnostics such as blower door, duct leakage and combustion safety testing.

Physical requirements:

  • The position requires occasional overnight travel.
  • Ability to climb, balance, kneel, crawl, and lift.
  • Ability to work on ladders.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and move 50 pounds unassisted.
