We’re looking for a Senior Revenue Accountant to support our Accounting team.
This is a remote position located in Chicago, IL with availability for an average of 1 day per week in person meetings.
Position Summary
Excellent opportunity for an experienced technical accountant with subject matter expertise in revenue recognition, deferred revenue, unbilled revenue, general accounting and related revenue operations to join a fast-paced, high growth, technology organization as a Senior Revenue Accountant. The company offers lots of upside and the ability to make a difference! As a Senior Revenue Accountant at Coalfire, you will be a valuable member of the Accounting team with a focus on revenue operations and technical accounting including ASC 606 compliance, contract review for revenue treatment in accordance with GAAP as well as the opportunity to help to shape the implementation of future technology and tools. This person must be able to initiate, maintain and grow solid relationships with our sales, business operations and accounting teams to assess existing processes and procedures, and develop improvement opportunities related to customer account management to minimize operational risk while improving cash flow. This role will require one to provide data and analysis to management, ensure contract compliance for proper alignment with ASC 606, and KPI dashboarding during month-end close. The position will be tasked with identifying and improving revenue recognition processes as well as ensure accuracy/completeness of revenue recognition. This person will be an integral part of ongoing CPQ and Financial Force implementation project and will bring existing Netsuite general ledger experience.
What You’ll Do
- Reporting to the Senior Director, Technical Accounting, provide day-to-day support as it relates to contract review, revenue recognition, deferred revenue and unbilled revenue maintenance and project analysis and maintenance, and other data analysis and reporting as requested.
- As a subject matter expert in revenue recognition under ASC 606, analyze multiple element arrangements, fixed fee professional services contracts and SaaS revenue and record in accordance with GAAP.
- As a subject matter expert in revenue recognition, assess current operational processes and make recommendations and implement scalable and effective processes for a more efficient operating workstreams across the organization.
- Work cross functionally with different departments (Sales, Delivery, Operations, Product) on various revenue streams to understand accounting impact and treatment.
- As a customer first organization, analyze new product offerings in accordance with ASC 606 and make recommendations that result in operational efficiency balanced with meeting GAAP requirements.
- Review new contracts to determine appropriate accounting and recognition in compliance with ASC 606.
- Works closely with external auditors surrounding revenue questions and testing.
- Prepare monthly analysis while partnering with FP&A to bridge variances to budget.
- Review existing processes, structures, and systems to assist in the identification of improvement opportunities with a focus on simplification, standardization and optimization, especially the reduction of manual, Excel-based activities.
- Prepare and maintain monthly revenue, unbilled receivables, deferred revenue schedules and reconciliations.
- Collaborate with Finance and Sales on revenue metrics forecast and projections.
- Collaborate with collections and invoicing team on project setup, revenue recognition milestones and debookings analysis.
- Assist with other general accounting journal entries, account reconciliation and analysis as requested.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics
- 5+ years of related experience in a similar revenue operations role
- ASC 606 implementation experience
- Professional Services and/or SaaS revenue recognition experience
- Strong understanding of US GAAP, ASC 606 and ASC 705
- Netsuite experience
- Revenue operations experience (PSA tool, project setup, milestone recognition, multiple-element arrangement experience)
- Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, work effectively in a team environment and meet deadlines
- Excellent excel skills
- Excellent organization skills and responsiveness to others using/balancing multiple forms of communication
- Strong analytical and communication skills
- Be an innovator that shows evidence of applying research and analysis to recommend change
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy

At Coalfire, equal opportunity and pay equity is integral to the way we do business. A reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role is $71,000 to $122,689 based on national salary averages. The actual salary offer to the successful candidate will be based on job-related education, geographic location, training, licensure and certifications and other factors. You may also be eligible to participate in annual incentive, commission, and/or recognition programs.
