Position Deliverables, Roles and Responsibilities

  • Lead the carbon capture subsurface technical design and integrate with surface design requirements
  • Develop and implement compliance tasks, procedures, methods, and tools to comply with issued environmental permits
  • Manage and provide SME oversight of subsurface consultants for technical work and permit documentation
  • Actively support the regulatory team to deliver all required environmental permits for implementation of CO2 sequestration from pre-combustion and post-combustion sources
  • Participate in regulatory agency meetings and other forums to develop and maintain an up-to-date understanding of the regulatory and political drivers influencing climate change regulations and policy
  • Develop effective relationships with regulatory agency leadership to influence agency policy and the regulatory rule making that will ensure the best chance of success for the project

Required Experience

Technical / Discipline Specific Requirements

  • Minimum of BS in Engineering, preferably mechanical, chemical or petroleum engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Thorough understanding of California and EPA requirements for a carbon capture and sequestration projects
  • Strong technical skills and reservoir engineering experience including CO2 technology and a working knowledge of reservoir simulation
  • Experience working with various air, water, and waste regulatory agencies is preferred
  • An understanding of Federal EPA class VI and California Low-Carbon Fuel Standard
  • Clear understanding of project management, scheduling, budgeting, and cost estimating
  • Basic understanding of geology, production engineering, and petrophysics
  • Basic understanding of economic analysis, decision analysis, and ability to develop and effectively communicate technically and economically sound project recommendations
