Description
The Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking a Senior Services Regional Manager for the Special Programs Division, Senior Services. Senior Services is an innovative body designed to help meet the needs, wants and aspirations of seniors 60 & better as they age in place here in the County.
This individual will serve as the liaison to community volunteer groups and design programs to meet the needs of seniors 60 & better.
Examples of Important Duties
Direct supervision and overall management (i.e. personnel/staffing, programming, fiscal management, cost recovery, marketing, safety, maintenance, etc.) of the following senior activity centers:
- Evelyn Cole Senior Activity Center
- John E. Howard Senior Activity Center
- Camp Springs Senior Activity Center
- Senior programming at Southern Area Aquatic and Recreation Complex
- New senior activity center, Hampton Park, to be located in the new County Health and Human Services Building
- Establishes, recommends and monitors operating procedures (e.g., hours, building maintenance and repairs). Assists in the planning of new facilities (Hampton Park) and in the remodeling of present facilities.
- Plans, schedules, and assigns work to staff. Recruits, interviews, selects, and trains staff and volunteers. Evaluates work and counsels staff. Initiates personnel procedures for hiring and recommends disciplinary action.
- Manages service area budget. Prepares annual budget request. Controls expenditures (self-sustaining and budgeted accounts) in accordance with approved budget. Obtains bids and price quotes. Initiates purchase requisitions and check requests. Collects fees and deposits revenues.
- Maintains records of revenues and expenditures of community, county, and state-funded programs. Maintains records of personnel forms, time cards, inventory of supplies and equipment, registration, and program participants.
- Purchase Card responsibilities.
Manages, plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates special events.
- Defines goals, objectives and sets standards.
- Coordinates activities with other Commission units and government representatives.
- Establishes/recommends fees.
- Obtains permits, promotes safety, and complies with MOSH and OSHA regulations.
- Serve as a liaison for senior clubs and community groups located south of Central Ave.
- Facilitate the development and provide guidance as needed to senior clubs located within community centers
- Collaborate with community centers and specialty facilities to offer large scale senior special events in the southern part of the county
- Meets with citizens, community groups, park and recreation councils, Board of Education staff, professional organizations, and local government representatives to identify needs, plan programs, solve problems, and answer questions about Commission activities in the area. Handles inquiries and complaints from the general public.
Develop and coordinate an effective marketing and community outreach plan for assigned area
- Effectively utilize social media and print media to promote senior programs. Serve as a leader on the Senior Services Team
- Coordinate the activities south of Central Ave. for the Annual Active Aging Week program
- Assist in the planning and implement a senior services staff training annually
- Serve as Chair of assigned senior county-wide special events such as the Senior Health and Fitness Day, Black History in Motion, southern area senior holiday concert, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in parks and recreation or related field, and four years of progressively responsible experience, including three years as a supervisor or program director; or
2. An equivalent combination of education and experience.
3. Valid Maryland driver’s license or the ability to acquire one.
