Microsoft is seeking a focused Senior Site Reliability Engineering to join the Digital Security & Resilience (DSR) organization as we undergo the journey to ensure that the right virtualization services are released with the right security mindset. Our goal is to ensure access to the right resources at the right time, protected every step of the way.
With your experience in engineering functions, knowledge of Azure Management (including Azure Active Directory), Windows Server OS, enterprise infrastructure and overall service health, you will champion our own identity-centric digital transformation and support hundreds of thousands of employees as they seek to empower every person on the planet to accomplish more.
The ideal candidate will have experience in a team environment, experience running and designing enterprise scale services and platforms, technical depth in cloud platforms, agile development practices, and experience in designing & tuning telemetry. In addition, this position requires an individual who can demonstrate the ability to ensure highly resilient and scalable service designs through partnership with other members of the service team.
Qualifications:
Required/Minimum Qualifications
- 6+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration
- OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration.
Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
- 7+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration
- OR Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 4+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration
- OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 3+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration
- OR Doctorate Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
Site Reliability Engineering IC4 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 – $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 – $238,600 per year.

Responsibilities:
- Identify opportunities and drive the implementation of automation to improve service health, manageability, reliability, and telemetry.
- Read, write, configure, design, and script end-to-end service telemetry, alerting and self-healing capabilities for platforms.
- Own, triage, investigate and resolve service issues with an emphasis on broad communication, learning & teaching throughout the process.
- Author functional and technical documentation. Communicate on a deep technical level with product engineering, project management and operations teams to improve and optimize products, improve infrastructure, and evolve services.
- Remain current on new technologies, methods and procedures including, but not limited to, coding practices such as Test-Driven Development, Continuous Integration, and Continuous Deployment.
