Job Description
The Missouri S&T Athletic Department, a 17-sport NCAA Division II intercollegiate program competing in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, is seeking a rising professional to join the Sports Information Office to assist with day-to-day operations and meet the department’s communications and promotional needs.
The selected candidate must be highly organized and driven with exceptional multi-tasking and communication skills. This person will report to the Director of Sports Information and will serve as the primary contact for assigned varsity programs at Missouri S&T. In the assigned role, the candidate will be responsible for creating, promoting and publicizing Miner student-athletes, coaches and teams via social and digital media, and working alongside local media outlets.
The individual will assist in creating bold and engaging content and will develop an effective social media strategy to assist in managing social media accounts for all varsity programs at Missouri S&T. He or she will work in collaboration with other areas in the department and the university, including external relations, recreational sports, communications, and marketing to enhance and grow the brand of Missouri S&T Athletics.
Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premiere Pro is preferred, as is a working knowledge of NCAA LiveStats, Stat Crew, and PrestoSports statistical software. Additional duties may include, writing feature stories and press releases; record keeping and tracking statistics; participating in public address, radio, and/or video work; assisting with media request for coaches and student-athletes; and other projects as assigned. Time management and interpersonal skills are essential as the successful candidate will be asked to multitask regularly and work alongside other members of the department, as well as lead a strong and expanding group of student workers. Willingness to work evenings, weekends and holidays, along with traveling with teams to select events is required.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications or journalism
- One (1) year experience in intercollegiate media relations or communications
- Served as a primary communications contact for a sport at a previous school
