We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join our Battery Management System (BMS) team of electrical engineers developing the energy storage and power distribution system for our electric eVTOL aircraft. The goal of a BMS Electrical Engineer at Wisk is to design and develop the electronic assemblies controlling and monitoring both low and high voltage, including the power distribution and circuit protections. You will be part of Powertrain IPT working with the integrated product team that ensures the entire energy storage and power distribution system works safely and correctly.
Within 3 months:
- Learn about the BMS and aircraft electronics architecture and existing hardware/firmware
- Design and develop the power control, monitoring and conversion system to produce regulated, isolated high and low voltage from the batteries
- Construct and publish Circuit Block Diagrams to describe the architecture of the Battery Management System (BMS)
- Become a reviewer of electrical design releases, assembly procedures, rework plans, and test results
Within 6 months:
- Work in Altium to revise and improve the electrical circuits and subsystems while producing documentation for fabrication and assembly vendors
- Perform component selection and qualification for the BMS and power distribution system
- Support certification compliance testing, test witnessing, safety analysis, and documentation of electrical hardware
- Lead board level and sub-system level troubleshooting and failure mode analysis
- Contribute to writing requirements of new electrical systems, including design for manufacturing and design for testing.
Within 12 months:
- Evaluate options for improving future battery management systems and power distribution architecture
- Lead the effort to optimize weight savings throughout the ESPS electrical power, protection and distribution system
- Be the focal point for aviation regulators (FAA, EASA, Etc) conversations on technical issue resolution with the High Voltage Battery System
What you have done:
- B.S. in a relevant engineering discipline with at least 10 years of experience with the tasks listed above (M.S or PhD count towards years of experience)
- Experience with development, design, analysis and test of: Analog Sensor Interfaces, Power Supplies, Topology Selection, and Microprocessor Integration for High Voltage Battery and power distribution systems
- Experience in a rigorous development, verification, documentation environment similar to aerospace DO-254 is a plus.
Desired:
- Design knowledge of electrical bonding criteria, thermal cooling requirements for electronic equipment, EMI shielding, and High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) / Indirect Effects of Lightning (IEL) installation criteria is considered a plus
- Understanding of and experience with designing and testing to Environmental Standards RTCA DO-160 (or equivalent MIL-Specs or Automotive standards)

Pay Range the Company expects to pay: $194,010 – $223,000 per year – The starting base salary within this range for this role varies based on factors such as your geographical location, and your relevant job-related experience that is consistent with a business necessity.
