Chief Technology Office
The Chief Technology Office (CTO) maintains a centre of excellence for technology and broader infrastructure-related innovation, translating market needs into core expansion programmes to enable market development. We ensure that products and services are constantly pushing the boundaries of satellite communications. The CTO team is responsible for delivering development programmes, including satellites and launchers, ground infrastructure (ground stations, networks, user terminals and access technology), regulatory, market access and product and service development.
Job Description
Primary Purpose of Role:
Senior Technical Platform Manager working day-to-day with Viasat’s Development team in Seattle and within the greater Aviation Platform team. The Senior Technical Platform Manager will plan and organize an upcoming project and its interaction with other ongoing Viasat projects. This position will provide expertise to Viasat’s Seattle development team to ensure structured and disciplined delivery according to industry-standard project and program protocols.
This role will report to the Director of Aviation Platforms and primarily deal day-to-day with the Seattle development team. Additional responsibilities will include interactions with other groups within the Aviation Platform team, Viasat’s larger global team, and with Airline customers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engineer and deliver technical solutions for the Aviation Platform Development team
- Liaison with the Seattle Development team to meet requirements, support priorities and ensure deadlines are met
- Scope, develop, and manage plans and delivery
- Manage technical requirements with full consideration for the entire lifecycle of the project
- Work with Viasat’s global team ensuring to coordinate the technical aspects of the overall schedule
- Source and manage specialist third party contractors as required
- Ensure that reporting is accurate and provided in a timely manner
- Provide technical and engineering support for other projects as required
- Ensure project management protocols/reporting are adhered to as appropriate
Qualifications
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
This position is a hands-on engineering role and requires practical experience and understanding within the following areas:
- Experience working with an Agile development group
- Experience planning multiple aircraft fleet programs in parallel
- Experience communicating with Airlines and Aircraft manufacturers
- Experience/understanding of commercial avionics systems
- Able to effectively work with others to resolve issues and able to suggest and develop practical, rapid solutions
- Self-motivated and familiar working in a matrix management environment
- Quick thinking and delivery focused with a meticulous attention to detail
- Good organizational and project management skills with the ability to multi-task
- Good understanding of software development and integration lifecycles
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
- Prior knowledge of the satellite communication industry
- Prior knowledge of satellite ground networks.
- Aviation STC process experience for either FAA or EASA or both
- Knowledge of satellite & cellular industry
Additional Information
Salary Range: $130,000 – $194,000 USD annually
