The Senior Technical Project Manager will report to the Director of Technical Project Management on the Clean Energy Products team and will be primarily responsible for managing complex product development projects. You will work closely with the product business groups and other functional leaders in the company (product management, engineering, service, manufacturing operations, supply chain, marketing, quality, IT, finance) and will be responsible for leading product development projects supporting the Generac Clean Energy business.
As a Senior Technical Project Manager, you are a hands-on leader with exceptional communication skills. You are responsible for planning and executing all product development activities including new product introductions, cost reduction, technology integration, and lifecycle product support. You will leverage your engineering background to understand the product requirements, manage technical risks, and lead the team to resolve complex issues within the existing schedule. The right candidate has a proven track record planning and executing multiple parallel complex projects and leading large cross-functional teams.
Open to individuals to work a hybrid schedule out of one of the following locations: Vancouver, BC; San Francisco Bay Area, CA; Reno, NV; Los Angeles, CA; or South Portland, ME. Preference to Los Angeles (Pacific Palisades) or Reno.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As a part of the Clean Energy Product group, you will be part of developing next generation clean energy solutions, accelerating our progress towards a sustainable energy future. You will play a leading role in creating and executing product development plans for Generac’s clean energy products.
- Lead product development activities while translating product requirements into project scope, budgets, and detailed execution plans
- Lead key project execution, in primary collaboration with Product Management, Engineering (Hardware, Firmware, Software), and all other relevant functions for new product development or similar product initiatives
- Execute projects to schedule, project cost, scope and quality commitments
- Achieve target product cost for Generac and product life cycle cost for Customers
- Crisply and clearly communicating project status to executives, partners, and across teams
- Effectively execute and provide suggestions for improvement of the product development process. Utilize the Generac Development Process (GDP) Milestones and Design Reviews as key drivers of product development progression.
- Define and drive risk mitigation plans for projects. Define trade-offs and lead contingency option assessments when needed, then select and execute mitigation plans
Minimum Qualifications:
- B.S. in a technical discipline: engineering, physics, or equivalent. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering preferred.
- 8+ years of progressive work experience in engineering, project engineering, project management, product management, or related new product development field
- 5+ years of project management experience leading cross-functional teams in design, development, and manufacturing of electrical equipment, power electronics, or other similar products.
- Ability to travel up to 20%
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in solar or storage product development or related field
- Prior Experience blending Agile and waterfall project management principles to manage projects in a high-tech development environment with cross functional teams
- MBA, PMP, Project Management Certificate, or other formal Project Management education
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to deliver results while working simultaneously on multiple projects; balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes
- Ability to lead the transformation from product requirements into a product design and realization plan to meet or exceed the product and business goals
- Demonstrated ability to influence people and teams who are not direct reports
- Advanced team building, communication, and leadership skills
- Strong understanding of engineering technical issues/needs, manufacturing, supply chain, service, customer service, finance, sales, and marketing as related to product design and development
- Self-driven, highly motivated, flexible and high capacity to learn
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk. On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting; close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Compensation: Generac Clean E nergy is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. The annual salary for this role is $110,000 – $165,000. This compensation will ultimately be in line with the location in which the position is filled. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location. This role is eligible for variable compensation including short term and long-term incentives.
