Senior University Counsel (60% FTE)

Immediate opening for a part-time attorney in the Office of the General Counsel of Stanford University. This is a Senior University Counsel position and reports to the Deputy General Counsel and Managing Attorney. Position requires discretion, flexibility, and the ability to understand and manage projects with competing interests in a constantly changing, cutting-edge environment. Must be able to work efficiently and independently, while also working collaboratively with other in-house attorneys and outside counsel.

CORE DUTIES:
May include the following areas: student and academic affairs, civil or criminal proceedings, immigration, compliance with applicable federal and state regulations (including academic research compliance) and international laws. General responsibilities may include legal review and advice; investigations; litigation; responding to third party requests (such as subpoenas, warrants, government inquiries, etc.); research issues; risk management; and university policy and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should have a law degree from an accredited law school and a minimum of ten years of relevant experience and be a member of the California Bar or able to become one shortly. Requirements include excellence in academic credentials, writing, analytical and communication skills as well as good judgment and a practical approach to solving legal problems. Applicants must be comfortable with technology, committed to teamwork, responsive and have a proven record of providing the highest quality client service. Experience working in higher education or with higher education clients preferred. The final candidate will need to successfully pass a background check to be considered for this position.

The expected pay range for this position is $300,000 to $380,000 per annum. The actual pay will be pro-rated based on the 60% FTE.
