Septic Technician

Position Summary: Reporting to our Shop Inventory Manager, the person in this position will be responsible for professionally pumping and dumping the contents of septic tanks

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

All
• Appropriately uses and keeps all fleet vehicles & equipment organized, clean (outside & inside), stocked, and performing properly, per EPHA policy.
• Attend the morning huddle. (Future)
• Check Google Chats, personal EPHA email box, and voicemail continuously throughout the day. Follow up promptly and appropriately to requests.
• Continually strives to learn and master the systems and products.
• Encourages, influences, and supports other EPHA family members to complete jobs on time and up to company standards and protocol.
• Greets customers warmly. Responds to customer inquiries quickly and professionally for prompt service during and sometimes outside business hours.
• Promotes EPHA to potential candidates/new hires.
• Properly completes credit card transactions in Divvy.
• Sell maintenance agreements.
• When assigned, actively participates in EPHA marketing events such as golf outings, parades, Christmas basket delivery, etc.
• Perform other duties as required, including duties of absent team members, with a positive can-do attitude.

All Safety
• Communicate with safety team members on safety concerns. Our safety motto: “If you see something say something.”
• Responsible for self and others to ensure compliance with EPHA safety protocol by wearing personal protective equipment on jobs.

All Service Titan Users
• Daily – Properly uses Service Titan to document anything and everything relating to customers and jobs per EPHA processes. Our goal is to provide a consistent customer service experience.
• Daily – Review and complete tasks shown in Service Titan under profile picture; including estimates, billing, schedule, customer inquiries, etc.

Customer Experience
• Asks qualifying questions and effectively listens to determine the best solutions to customers’ needs in all divisions.

Excavation/Drains
• Heavy equipment operation, including hydro-vac truck, while following safety guidelines in residential and commercial settings.
• Install underground storm, sanitary, or water piping systems, extending piping as needed to connect fixtures and plumbing.
• Operates septic pump truck.
• Properly loads and unloads trailers, secures equipment, and drives equipment to and from a job.
• Understands sewer install codes for each entity (City of Columbus, Delaware, Marion, Morrow County, Union County, etc.) because pricing changes, per an estimate, per city based on whether the job requires a permit and what the stipulations of the install codes are.
• Understands when pipe lining is a good option to solve a customer problem and makes correct recommendations.
• Take payments from customers.

Septic
• Clean and repair septic tanks, sewer lines, or related structures such as manholes, culverts, and catch basins.
• Dig out sewer lines manually, using shovels.
• Locate problems, using specially designed equipment, and mark where digging must occur to reach damaged tanks or pipes.
• Update sewer maps and manhole charts. (Future, map system to be developed.)
• Withdraw cables from pipes and examine them for evidence of mud, roots, grease, and other deposits indicating broken or clogged sewer lines. Shop
• Daily – Supports and works with techs to get them out quickly in the mornings. Assists all techs with preparing for all upcoming jobs by locating, loading, and maintaining stocked items in vans
• Maintain and improve shop cleanliness, organization, and flow.
• Pick up & deliver parts/materials/tools to jobs, vendors, etc. as needed.
• Reset door codes/lock codes when an associate exits the company or is otherwise necessary.
• Weekly – Meet with the building maintenance team to review the priority checklist for projects that need completed at the office building, and finalized at the old shop.

Requirements:

Current CDL Class B license with tanker endorsement.

A current, valid driver’s license, that meets insurance requirements, must be maintained throughout the course of employment.

Ability to determine how money will be spent to get work done, and accounting for those expenditures.

Able to lift 100 pounds. Applies logic and can accurately follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.

Excellent interpersonal skills to communicate effectively across the organization.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Highly detail-oriented

Keeps professional grooming standards set by the company along with a clean and wrinkle-free uniform with appropriate work shoes as listed in the company handbook.

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Load, unload, and secure equipment on transport trailers according to guidelines.

Must be able to quickly learn and fully utilize software necessary to perform job duties.

Reliable transportation to and from work, including on-call shifts.

Subject to a pre-employment driver’s license, background check, and drug screening with follow-up random screening throughout employment.

Team Player – Follow all responsibilities and requirements required of team members to set an example for all to follow. Works well under pressure.

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

Physical Activity While performing the duties of this position, the employee will predominantly work on their feet and use their hands throughout the course of the day. The employee is regularly expected to follow instructions, listen, speak, reach with hands and arms, carry heavy objects, stretch, twist, stoop, crouch, kneel or crawl, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces; therefore, good physical strength, manual dexterity, multilimbed coordination, and stamina is required.

Visual Activity The minimum work conditions for this position indicate that the individual must have the ability to work in inclement weather and dirty conditions. The work environment will subject employees to continual interruptions and changing priorities; therefore, the ability to concentrate on lengthy tasks to achieve completion is required.

Work Environment The minimum visual activity of the seeing job is both far and close to the eyes and requires the ability to drive, inspect, and view/read computer tablets, and paperwork regularly
