This is a three-year term-limited position
Under general supervision of the Information Technology (IT) Department’s Infrastructure Manager, performs configuration, administration and maintenance duties for the SRPMIC. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt and considered a Driving position.

Distinguishing Features:The Server Specialist I is distinguished from the Server Technician and Server Specialist II job classes by the level of technical, problem solving skills, knowledge, complexity of assignments, project roles and responsibilities, leadership and mentoring responsibilities. The Server Specialist I provides assistance as needed to the Server Technician and escalates issues as needed. This position must have a broad understanding of information technology, the ability to adapt and constantly learn new technologies. Must be able to deal with ambiguity and constant change and must possess the ability to function independently and collaborate effectively on a team.
Examples of Tasks
1. Ticket Management Managing the ticket queue and completing majority of tickets received. Distributing others as needed
- Complete tickets within the assigned Service Level Agreement
- Interacts with customers and other technician on a routine basis
- Updating tickets to indicate current status on a daily basis.
2. Backup Tape Administration: Provides primary support for the tape management process.
- Rotates and manages the tape media to ensure all tapes are replaced within a specified time frame and new tapes are purchased as needed.
- Works with the tape management vendor to support regularly scheduled pickup and deliveries of tapes and special deliveries as needed.
- Addresses technical support for the tape library and resolves issues as encountered.
3. Server Maintenance: Administers and maintains a variety of Windows Servers in an enterprise environment including physical and virtual servers. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs server hardware installation and system replacements (racking hardware and OS installation).
- Documents OS and application installation and configuration steps.
- Provides first level support for incident resolution and root cause analysis, to include storage and network devices
- Performs firmware upgrades on servers at least twice a year.
- Inventories all physical servers and network devices at least once a year.
4. Enterprise Services: Supports Enterprises services that include, but are not limited to, Exchange, Teams, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, AirWatch/MDM and File Servers.
- Supports Active Directory, Teams and Exchange administration such as account maintenance.
- Creates, deletes and modifies user accounts as requested through service requests in a timely manner.
5. Monitoring: Manages system alerts using System Center Operations Manager to monitor server health and performance.
- Uses System Center Configuration Manager to ensure all systems have been updated with applicable security and operating system patches.
- Monitors email or text alerts that would indicate problems requiring immediate response.
- Provides patch, configuration and security management duties.
- Performs server antivirus management, system monitoring and threat migration/incidence response duties.
6. On Call: Participates in a rotating on-call, after-hours work schedule.
7. Documentation: Documents standards and procedures. Creates, reviews and updates standard operating procedures as needed.
8. Miscellaneous: Performs other IT job related tasks as assigned by the Infrastructure Manager, Assistant IT Director (Infrastructure & Operations) or IT Director.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
- Knowledge of the history, culture, laws, ordinances, customs and traditions of the SRPMIC.

- Knowledge of technical writing principles and practices.
- Knowledge of network designing software such as Visio or AutoCAD.

- Knowledge of VMware vSphere as well as Microsoft Exchange, AD, DHCP, DNS.
- Knowledge of Microsoft SCOM and SCCM.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Teams.
- Knowledge of Comvault Backup Solution.
- Knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems.
- Skill interfacing at all staff levels and providing effective verbal and written communication.
- Skill managing small to medium server/network projects.
- Skill to effectively analyze and solve problems.
- Skilled in Server hardware troubleshooting and configuration;
- Ability to diagnose and respond to infrastructure issues in an accurate, timely and thorough manner.
- Ability to effectively manage simultaneous infrastructure issues.
- Ability to effectively manage server related change and requirements gathering.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data.
- Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks.

Minimum Qualifications
- Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline required.
- CompTIA Server+ or CompTIA Network+ Certification or other equivalent certification is required.
- Experience:
- Two (2) years’ experience in the following required:
- Working in IT, professional services and/or customer support organizations including hands-on experience in server implementation, monitoring, managing, troubleshooting and reporting.
- Direct work experience in administration of a Windows Sever 2008 and above server and supporting Windows networked client workstations (Windows 10 and above).
- One (1) year demonstrated experience performing the following tasks required:
- Experience managing diverse services including: Active Directory, Group Policy, Exchange, VMWare, IIS, DNS, DHCP, WINS.
- Knowledge of SAN and/or NAS storage arrays.
- Management of Windows Active Directory domains users and groups.
- Level I support of an enterprise backup solution.
- Providing Level I support of infrastructure issues.
- Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.
- Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
Special Requirements
- May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends and holidays.
- Required to participate in the “on-call” staffing rotation.
- May be required to receive and maintain a Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, Community Regulatory License and State Certification (ADOG).
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
