Summary
HMS is hiring Service Authorization Supervisor for our Alaska MMIS Fiscal Agent contract. Under the leadership and direction of the Service Authorization and Nurse Manager, the Service Authorization Supervisor provides support to the Service Authorization team, Utilization and Review team, Nurses, Dentists, and other staff as needed through data entry, filing, and answering incoming calls. Other duties may be assigned as required.
Your role in our mission
- Assists manager with the daily workload distribution to the team to ensure compliance with Service Level Agreements.
- Assists staff with collection and transfer of non-clinical data, acquisition of clinical data, and activities that do not require evaluation or interpretation of clinical information.
- Supports manager and team with oversight a variety of general administrative duties for the Service Authorization Department.
- Responds to escalated calls and coordinates with the Utilization Management department.
- Oversees staff performing data entry of prior authorization requests, and electronic filing/scanning of medical records in the appropriate format and location.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in Service Authorizations, Utilization Management, or related healthcare setting preferred.
- Proficiency with medical terminology and/or coding preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, Access, clinical and travel authorization experience preferred.
- Effective verbal, written, interpersonal, and phone communication skills to interact with internal departments and external contacts.
- Ability to work mentor a team and maintain professional productive environment. Ability to prioritize and manage duties in a timely manner.
- Must treat all health information with confidentiality and discretion.
What you should expect in this role
- Hybrid model including in-office and WFH days to be defined.
- For positions assigned to WFH, reliable high-speed internet connectivity is required. Employees working-from-home, local to the Anchorage, Alaska area, may be required to report to the office, at times, to support work efforts.
- In order to effectively work as a teleworker with Gainwell, employees Broadband Internet connections, should have a minimum speed of 24MBS download and 8 MBS upload. Greater speeds will of course provide better performance.

The pay range for this position is $51,800.00 – $74,000.00 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
