We are looking for a Service Engineer II who is passionate about cloud databases and who likes taking data driven decisions and building innovative solutions to support the business growth. You will work with a breadth of partners across Microsoft to rapidly develop, debug and resolve issues around Cosmos DB buildouts. You will drive continuous improvements to prevent repeats and address common classes of issues across the Azure software stack through design reviews and problem management. This opportunity will enable you to learn unparalleled system-wide knowledge of how the Azure cloud is built and maintained. The contacts you make with experts will enable you to deep dive on services and new technologies and partner for improvements.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering.
    • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check:

  • This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ARM Templates, Azure PowerShell and CLI management.
  • Technical experience and knowledge in Core Azure Infrastructure technologies.
  • Experience working independently and as a member of a cross-functional team.
  • Industry experience operating / engineering Services.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell/Scripting Knowledge, Windows Services infrastructure to automate day to day activities.
  • Ability to write tools, automation, and enhancements in arbitrary subcomponents of services/products to deliver and manage software in production (both around services, and within them).

Service Engineering IC3 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 – $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 – $198,600 per year.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.
  • Communicate on a deeply technical level with product engineering, project management and operations teams to improve and optimize products, improve infrastructure, and evolve services.
  • Identify opportunities and drive the implementation of automation to improve service health, manageability, reliability, and telemetry.
  • Assists in the implementation of reliable, scalable, and high-performance solutions across teams. Contributes to design documents. Owns implementation plans. Maintains quality checklist and related documentation with guidance from other engineers.
  • Dive deep into Azure technologies and distributed database systems.
