As a Advertiser Trust and Safety (ATS) Service Engineer II you will be part of an expert technical team delivering complex data analysis to provide advanced fraud, malware and policy enforcement solutions for the Microsoft online advertising marketplace. Your focus will be analyzing data and patterns across advertiser, native and publisher data, campaigns, and domains to protect advertiser Return on investment (ROI) and ensure user safety across Microsoft Advertising, and to identify suspicious or fraudulent traffic and advertising practices. You will proactively hunt to protect customers and users while mitigating fraud and policy noncompliance activity. As a Service Engineer II you build and maintain strong remote, virtual relationships with a global team and partners by using excellent communication skills, big data analysis, and expert data visualization to document and present complex problems/solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences. This role uses online forensics investigations using both new and emerging technologies to creatively identify and solve unique problems, as well as detect dangerous and non-compliant advertising practices. The service engineer is focused on being the technical expert and trusted advisor to progressively evolve and deliver industry-leading ad quality investigation methodologies. Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field AND 2+ years technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, service engineering, or systems engineering
- OR equivalent experience.
- 2+ years working in security and/or online forensics, including any of the following: organic or paid search technologies, web analysis tools, web development and software development lifecycles.
- 2+ years experience with policy enforcement, risk mitigation, and/or user safety.
Preferred Certifications:
- 2+ years of experience with online advertising technology.
- 2+ years working with Data and Trend Analysis, data visualization skills and ability to represent extremely large data sets.
- Experience with SQL to manipulate data rapidly using complex joins and stored procedures.
- Experience with Bigdata: HDInsight/Hadoop, CosmosDB, DataBricks.
- Creative and effective problem identification and problem solving.
- Adherence to quality, accuracy and stated policy standards.
- 2+ years relevant technical experience, including work with web technologies such as XML, HTML, IIS, ASP, AJAX, PHP, Flash, JavaScript, or other emerging technologies.
- Experience working with Global Team.
- Customer-focused anticipating, resolving, and responding to customer needs.
- Microsoft Certifications: MCSE, Cloud certification (e.g., Azure, Office 365, Amazon Web Services).
- Technical Certifications: Networking, PgMP, Azure Administrator or Developer certification within 6 months of hire.
- Project Management Certifications: PMP or other.
- Certifed Fraud Examiner (CFE) is a plus.
Service Engineering IC3 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,300 – $182,600 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $120,900 – $198,600 per year.

Responsibilities:
- Acts as front-line security gatekeeper for Microsoft’s online advertising marketplace. Performs forensics (detailed and extraordinarily complex investigations) on the Microsoft Advertising platform to identify and fight fraud, malware and other unsafe advertising practices. Identifies concerning or anomalous trends and patterns posing ad quality risks and violations.
- Seeks to mitigate ad traffic and quality risks or other out of compliance activity on the network. Works to progressively evolve detection and investigation methodologies.
- Investigates security and quality issues post-launch of new platform features.
- Interacts with all customers and partners with exceptional care and customer-centric service.

- Acts to prevent user, partner and customer quality risk issues through industry awareness, new feature risk analysis, progressive policy influence, pre-launch partner quality reviews, fraud/DSAT trend identification, platform feature recommendations and business quality advocacy.
- Develops holistic mitigation solutions in partnership with engineering, business, and operational partners.
- Analyzes extraordinarily large volumes of data and interprets traffic patterns, identifies risks, documents conclusions and, recommends systems and process solutions to mitigate issues.
- Influences engineering platform improvements by identifying root cause trends for False Positives/ False Negatives and submitting user cases documenting platform gaps.
- Develops compelling case studies to influence changes in Microsoft Advertising platform to improve user or advertiser security and experience.
- Enforces marketplace and user security by recognizing and adapting to industry shifts, evolving client needs/risks and emerging technological conditions.
- Continuously deploys creative, scalable solutions to supplement existing engineering platform risk detections to limit risk and exposure until new platform features are deployed.
- Ensures policy interpretation and enforcement are enabled at scale.
- Ensures product, readiness reviews, policy feature preparations, and optimizations are completed prior to launch.
- Leverages and improves operational tools or methods, and makes algo-platform recommendations, to proactively identify fraud / DSAT.
- Uses repeatable processes and automations to improve consistency, efficiency, and safety.
- Fosters Service Level Agreement (SLA) achievement by surfacing risks, issues, trends, and performing quality reviews through workflow monitoring, auditing, and timely issue mitigation.
