DESCRIPTION
To effectively perform the duties necessary to appropriately house and care for shelter animals until either adoption or rescue is accomplished and to encourage responsible pet ownership. This position is a part time position.
DUTIES
An employee in this classification effectively performs the duties necessary to appropriately house and care for shelter animals until either adoption or rescue is accomplished and to encourage responsible pet ownership. Work also includes a variety of clerical work in the operation of the County Animal Shelter. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated on the basis of attainment of individual and departmental performance objectives, feedback from the public served, periodic conferences, and personal observation.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- General knowledge of the proper care and feeding of animals.
- Working knowledge of state and county animal control laws, policies, and procedures as well as public health rabies laws.
- General knowledge of public health rabies laws.
- General knowledge of office policies and procedures.
- Ability to type and file with accuracy.
- Ability to meet and deal with the public tactfully, courteously, and effectively.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate to a variety of individuals on all levels will be required.
- Ability to exhibit a genuine concern for the welfare of companion animals and a desire to work with the community to foster positive animal welfare responses within the county.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education and Experience
Graduation from high school and one year of clerical and/or animal shelter experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Special Requirements.
Valid North Carolina driver’s license
