What You Will Do
The Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Engineering (ALDW) provides system engineering and program management to ensure the safety, reliability, and security of the US nuclear stockpile. ALDW integrates the stockpile stewardship program and executes weapons engineering and testing in support of the Laboratory’s critical mission.
This position will reside within the Use Control Site Coordinator’s Office and report to the UCSC. It is a complex position that consolidates several existing Sigma Operations work into one position. The successful candidate will be asked to support a range of work within the UCSC office including but not limited to:
- Experience in learning and using new database like software.
- Proficient level in Excel and Microsoft Office Products.
- Process and grant new and renewing Sigma 15s.
- Verify proper badging and clearance level needs for Sigma 15.
- Review submitted justifications for adequate technical detail.
- Work with other NNSA and DOD sites to verify Sigma access for meetings.
- Respond quickly to daily inquiries to Sigma Office.
- Process Sigma 15s for long term visitors and dual citizens.
- Work across LANL to support updates and revisions to policies.
- Implementation of sigma training.
- Help prepare and manage programmatic financial updates for the UCSC Office.
- Manage quarterly audits to NNSA.
- Work with WRS on new development and maintenance of the new Sigma Operations Software.
What You Need
Minimum Requirements:
Project Management
Entry-Level knowledge of and experience in project management of technical or operational work and managing change control and risk. Experience with small project team(s) in the planning, tracking, and execution of project plans from initiation to completion.
Project Control & Scheduling
Demonstrated ability to manage cost and schedule commitments for projects or programs to schedule. Entry-Level knowledge and demonstrated ability in applying project controls principles, including cost and performance reporting, variance analysis and use of cost and schedule tools. Ability to use judgment within defined practices in negotiating with program and line managers to ensure that resources are available to accomplish the work, to identify procurement and contracting needs, and to marshal resources to complete project deliverables within the scope, schedules, and budgets
Communication
Demonstrated record of successfully supporting cross-organization teams to ensure complex technologies or products are delivered within budget and on schedule. Experience in interacting effectively with all levels of internal personnel; building trust, gaining consensus, and resolving conflicts. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience or knowledge of UCSC functions
- Understanding of Sigma levels, descriptors, and classifications
- Entry-Level knowledge in estimating project costs. Project Management experience familiar with managing mid-size to moderately complex projects in the areas of scope management, budget and schedule.
- Demonstrated experience in working/coordinating facility and operations projects.
- Entry-Level knowledge of nuclear weapons and NNSA facilities that support the U.S. stockpile.
- Experience working with the Weapons Engineering and Weapons Physics organizations at LANL.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) is desired.
Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details
Directive 206.2 – Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
