This position is responsible for supervising and coordinating a variety of skating programs including the United States Figure Skating (USFS) Learn to Skate Program, special events and annual ice show and competition.
Examples of Duties / Knowledge & Skills
Recruit and recommend for hire staff members for the USFS Learn to Skate Program.
Supervise, train, schedule and provide work direction to USFS Learn to Skate Program staff members.
Facilitate the process to provide an annual Ice Skating Camp and Show, Ice Skating Festival Competition, and seasonal exhibitions.
Oversee and implement entire USFS Learn to Skate Program lesson curriculum i.e. testing, tracking, record keeping and meeting all other requirements of the program.
Create and launch new programming as it pertains to Learn to Skate USA curriculum and group class opportunities.
Teach USFS Learn to Skate Program lessons in absence of instructors.
Work with Park and Recreation Department staff in the marketing and registration of participants for the USFS Learn to Skate Program, annual Ice Skating Camp and Show, Ice Skating Festival Competition, and seasonal exhibitions.
Coordinate with Park and Recreation Department for program and ice schedules, setting up of group classes, class pricing, and other administrative tasks.
Work to increase number of program pariticpants for all Learn to Skate classes, as well as improve retention of current customer base.
Work with Schmitz-Maki Arena staff in the general office operations including but not limited to program registration, answering office phone , skate rentals, handling customer complaints, locking rooms and/or facility.
Provide high quality communication and customer service to participants and respond in a timely fashion to customer concerns and feedback.
Attend USFS training on regulations for Learn to Skate program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum qualifications & Requirements
- High school diploma
- Valid Minnesota Class D Driver’s License
- 2 years of customer service experience
- 2 years computer experience with MicroSoft Office i.e. Word, Excel and Powerpoint
- 2 years experience with teaching USFS Learn to Skate Program curriculum
- 3 years experience with facilitating an ice festival or show
- 3 year supervisory experience
- Appropriate USFS certifications required to teach Learn to Skate Program curriculum
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties listed above.
Supplemental information
This position is a part-time position that could average up to 25 hours per week, with hours concentrated more in the Winter months and less in the Spring.
