General Statement of Duties
This position is in the Facilities Operations division of General Services. This position is part of a team that works to maintain the operations of the Electrical/Electronics/Locks group of Facilities Operations. This position will work on all aspects of the Electrical trade with in the County and will provide maintenance, and installations of the sprinkler/electrical/electronics for County facilities.

Knowledge of fire pumps, sprinkler systems and ability to make repairs to these systems, which are located in several of the county facilities will be required. This position will be required to obtain a Sprinkler maintenance license. Any cost associated with the license will be incurred by the county. This position will be required to maintain Fire Alarm Panels, Burglar Alarm system, Access control systems, locks, and CCTV systems. This position will also be involved with various electrical projects to include but not limited to running wire, conduit, installing plugs, outlets, upgrading lighting system etc.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.

Distinguishing Features
An employee in this class will be responsible for the maintenance of electrical systems in all the Forsyth County facilities, including the Law Enforcement Detention Center (LEDC).

The employee must exercise considerable independent judgment and initiative, and work with the Skilled Trade Supervisor to determine the general needs of facilities. Work is performed under general supervision and is evaluated by reviews of completed assignments and performance appraisals.

The employee must have the ability to work closely with other trade groups and be able to work unsupervised.

Lifting 50-100 lbs occasionally, 25-50 lbs frequently or up to 10-20 lbs constantly

This position has moderate periods of walking and standing.
Minimum Education and Experience
– Graduation from high school or GED
– At least three years of maintenance experience in the electrical trade
– A valid NC drivers license is required
– Must have demonstrated ability to perform skilled maintenance work
– Completion of a technical school program or certification in the relevant trade preferred
This position is subject to working in high security areas governed by the US Department of Justice’s Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy and therefore requires successfully passing a more stringent criminal background check
– An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for the minimum qualification requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
– Perform scheduled maintenance on all electrical systems and components on a regular, monthly
basis. Including checks on generators, exit lights and emergency lights: safety plan reviews,
checks of batteries, belts, block heaters, transfer switches, fuel levels, and replacing any parts if
needed during the inspection period.

– Perform corrective and maintenance work on electrical systems daily. Includes: repairing
lights, outlets, generators, burglar and fire systems, and any other electrical problems that may
occur

– Add electrical circuits to power any additional equipment purchased for County buildings or to
make modifications to existing wiring for construction needs. Follow state and local building
regulations based on the National Electric Code.

– Escort outside contractors that arrive on County property to perform work. Scopes of work
include but are not limited to performing maintenance on generators, doors, electrical systems,
fire and burglar systems, and any other work specified in the contract for the County.

– Identify components in advanced commercial/industrial/residential electrical lighting circuits,
understanding how each component works, and diagnosing and correcting problems in the
circuits.

– Troubleshoot building automation lighting controls and have ability to make needed corrections
and changes to the system.

– Review new facilities construction blueprints for the electrical trade and note corrections or
potential problems for re-design and specifications consideration.
