Why does the job exist?
The Social & Community Service Coordinator – Advanced will:
- Research and resolve complex recipient eligibility issues;
- Partner with other Divisions and contractors to address eligibility system changes and testing in the ASPEN and Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS);
- Develop as a subject matter expert (SME) in specific Medicaid areas and assisting Medicaid recipients;
- Address queries from the general public, responding to assignments, and preparing reports.
How does it get done?
The Social & Community Service Coordinator – Advanced is responsible for:
- Clarifying Medicaid program policies for new and current programs that require collaboration with staff and managers for expectations, time-frames, and for procedures in the steps needed to ensure an outcome of appropriate services to members;
- Identifying and evaluating complex system issues, through the use of the MMIS and the eligibility system ASPEN, that directly affect a client’s Medicaid eligibility and determine steps needed to correct;
- Consulting with staff and managers throughout the division, agency and other stakeholders and coordinating the information received for a thorough evaluation and response;
- Addressing eligibility system changes and testing of system enhancements;
- Participating in meetings as a SME and to coordinate testing efforts;
- Serving as a technical consultant to staff, managers, providers and MCOs regarding Medicaid eligibility, determining and implementing changes in procedures, processes, and improvement;
- Cross training new hires and other Bureau staff on policy and procedures necessary to resolve client Medicaid eligibility issues.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate has:
- Experience with Medicaid or health care programs;
- Experience in with preparing written material and technical writing;
- Experience resolving complex issues;
- Experience conducting research that includes determining the type of information to collect;
- Experience with customer service.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Guidance and Counseling, Education, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Criminology and/or Family Studies/Services and four (4) years of any combination of experience including working with communities, working on health or social service related matters, social work/case management experience, behavioral health and/or health care. Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting: late hours and weekends work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel may be required. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints. Must have own mode of transportation. Incumbent may be required to furnish a personal vehicle for carrying out assignments.
