Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide assistance to the City’s tourist and mail operations. This is accomplished by opening and closing the visitor center on weekends; meeting and greeting visitors; supplying visitors with information regarding local entertainment, hotels and restaurants. Other duties include maintaining an adequate supply of informational brochures; completing monthly visitor reports; assisting with gift shop sales and mailing and interacting with other City employees and the general public.
Essential Job Functions
- Provides customer service support by meeting and greeting visitors; answering phones; completing monthly visitor reports; working the gift shop; opening and closing the visitor center; restocking brochures and filling in as needed upon the absence of others.
- Maintains mailing operations by sorting water bills; running inserts and bills through a postage machine; metering the bills through the postage machine; taking them to the post office; sorting mail from the post office; bagging mail; driving to deliver mail to city departments and distributing interoffice mail.
- Ensures proper functioning of equipment and necessary supply levels by maintaining postage machines; ordering supplies and making sure that proper service is performed on the machines.
Minimum Qualifications
- Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. High school or equivalency.
- Under and including one year.
- Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License
Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
- Ability to perform the four basic arithmetic operations. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
- Ability to write simple sentences containing subject, verb, and object, and/or series of numbers, names, and addresses. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in elementary school up to high school. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
- Receives immediate direction: The employee normally performs the duty assignment after receiving detailed instructions as to methods, procedures, and desired end results with little room for deviation. Close and constant review is given.
