Summary

Information and Technology Services (ITS) is looking for a Social Media & Communications Specialist to join the Marketing and Communications team with in ITS.

You will develop and execute strategy plans for the social media accounts for the University of Michigan’s Information and Technology Services (ITS) department. You will conceptualize long-term campaigns, creating content, and coordinating with various communication teams across U-M to support outreach efforts through social media.

You are energized, an initiator, a leader and a creator. You will report to the Director of Marketing and Communications.

Responsibilities*

Use in-depth knowledge of industry trends, best practices, and latest tools and platforms, and apply them to enhance ITS’ brand and reputation.

Assess and modify the social media plan and channel-specific strategies to lead exposure, interest, and engagement across ITS social media platforms. Additionally, you will develop dynamic content and share compelling stories about how students, faculty, and staff are engaging with ITS services.

Break down very technical details of various initiatives and communicate them in engaging and captivating ways that all audiences can understand.

Work with various ITS communicators on large, multi-faceted projects. Consult on ongoing projects and provide support for new and established marketing plans. Manage content calendars for all ITS social accounts and drive content brainstorming and ideation efforts, keeping each account regularly populated with relevant content.

Use social media analytics to track and quantify metrics to measure the success and strength of ITS social media platforms. Establish annual goals and key performance indicators to increase exposure, influence, and engagement.

Turn around deliverables quickly, handle multiple revisions and fluctuating deadlines with positivity and ease.

Routinely review and edit content to ensure that it conveys a consistent organizational message and adhere to university brand standards. Regularly build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external customers. Develop strong relationships with the marketing teams in other units across the university.

Assist on time-sensitive announcements related to campus technology and services. Estimate and manage time and resources on multiple, concurrent projects.

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, English) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • At least 5 years of digital and social media marketing experience, including leading the development and execution of social media strategy
  • Experience with the strategic use of different social media tools and platforms to support business objectives and enhance brand reputation
  • Knowledge of a wide array of popular social media platforms with an interest in emerging technology and trends
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and presentation skills,
  • Experience with working in a high energy, fast-paced environment with multiple, and often conflicting, priorities
  • Strong project management skills
  • Experience leading, giving direction, and following through on commitments to completion
  • Understanding of basic graphic design principles
  • Proficient with Google Docs/Sheets and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience with brand marketing strategy
  • Experience and applicable knowledge of Google analytics, SEMRush, and other social metrics tools

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer, may require travel. Event support may require ability to move and transport items up to 25 lbs., remain stationary for long periods of time, and maneuver for set up. May require work outside of normal business hours. Punctual, regular, and consistent attendance required.
