Position Summary:

The Social Media Manager, Executive reports directly to the Director of Digital Communications, leading on social media strategies and drafting digital content for HRC’s President. This includes planned and unplanned rapid response coverage. They will also be responsible for drafting social media for select stakeholders in the organization. The Manager will work cross-departmentally across HRC to help drive engagement and grow audiences for the executive social media platforms. They will be key in capturing the voice of the President, and the organization, and ensuring that it maintains consistency across all channels.

This position will be based in Washington, DC. HRC is currently operating in a hybrid model, with employees in the office two (2) days a week and remote three (3) days a week.

For the Social Media Manager level, the salary range is $55,100 – $63,000. For candidates with at least 4 years of experience, we may hire at the Senior Manager level with a salary range of $60,800 $76,000.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead on developing content – written and video – for the HRC President’s social media channels, including, but not limited to:
    • Instagram
    • TikTok
    • Facebook
    • LinkedIn
    • Threads
    • Twitter
  • Lead on developing content – written and video – for select HRC internal spokespeople. This includes all of their social channels.
  • Work with the Digital team to refine the Presidential voice across all social channels to ensure it is consistent with organizational voice.
  • Draft, edit and schedule content covering HRC’s work, including political content (state legislative, federal and electoral), content focused on programmatic initiatives and educational resources and reports, and cultural and community moments.
  • Work alongside the Executive Speechwriter, the Director of Digital Communications and other digital team members to determine HRC’s editorial calendar and flow of social media content.
  • Work alongside fellow teams, namely the Digital Content & Strategy team, to help inform HRC’s digital presence across platforms.
  • Provide social media analytics for use in reports, debriefs, etc.
  • Meet with outside teams, both in Digital Communications and inter-departmentally, to track ongoing content strategy and needs.

Position Qualifications:

  • At least three years’ experience with organizational or executive social media, preferably in an advocacy setting;
    • Those with at least four years of experience may be considered for hiring at the Senior Social Media Manager level with a salary of $60,800 – $76,000.00.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills with a strong sense of urgency and the ability to work effectively under pressure;
  • Proven writing skills as well as the communications skills necessary to elicit the right information from a variety of sources;
  • Strong professional ethics and sensitivity in dealing with confidential issues;
  • Demonstrated ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues at all times;
  • Must be self-driven and well-versed in developing written materials;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and professional demeanor;
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Office applications (Word and Outlook), Google Apps (Gmail, Google Docs and Drive), and social media;
  • Flexibility with work schedule; this position requires frequent evening and weekend work to respond to breaking news;
  • Must be comfortable working in a high-volume environment and have the ability to closely follow the messaging of the organization on a wide variety of issues;
  • Personal interest in and commitment to LGBTQ+ rights, racial and gender justice strongly preferred;
  • Strong professional ethics and sensitivity in dealing with confidential issues;
  • Ability to professionally represent the President and HRC at all times;
  • Demonstrated ability to use tact and diplomacy when dealing with sensitive issues.
