Social Media & Web Specialist

Job Summary:
The Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement (DDEEA/Division), the central convener and leader for campus-wide diversity and inclusion outcomes at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is seeking a Communications Specialist.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing at the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Educational Achievement (the Division or DDEEA), the communications specialist will be a passionate and creative thinker working to champion the culture of belonging and advance the work of the Division through storytelling.

This position will work uplift the accomplishments of faculty, staff, students, and alumni across the Division’s scholarships, programs, and initiatives. Examples of projects the communications specialist would work on are crafting emails and newsletters for the DDEEA, publishing EDIB stories for the website, developing social media campaigns for Day of the Badger and several other student, alumni, and community engagement opportunities. Responsibilities: Develops and drafts communication content and assists in the execution of the communications strategy in support of unit communication goals.

  • 5% Monitors reach and effectiveness of communication campaigns, projects, and initiatives
  • 20% Plans editorial content according to established goals and objects
  • 5% Communicates with stakeholders to verify requests and identify editorial resources
  • 30% Writes, edits, and publishes content for various communication projects and marketing platforms to align with strategic initiatives and established communication campaigns
  • 20% Provides project management and execution of communications programs, initiatives, and tactical plans
  • 20% Develops and implements the Division’s social media strategy

Education:
Required
Bachelor’s Degree
Degree in journalism, marketing, communications, public relations or related field preferred.
Qualifications:
Required:
– 3 or more years of professional experience in communications or marketing
– Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with a variety of audiences
– Demonstrated experience adhering to editorial style guide and ability to review content for accuracy, style, and tone
– Exceptional attention to detail
– Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
– Experience developing and executing communication plans
– Experience with social media management and digital marketing

Preferred:
– Experience in a higher education environment
– Familiarity with social media planning tools like Sprout Social, Hootsuite, etc.
– Familiarity with content management systems like WordPress, Drupal, Squarespace etc.
– Familiarity with project management tools like Asana, Monday, etc.
– Familiarity and/or interest in telling stories about faculty, staff, and student achievements and stories about social and community impact
– Experience supervising interns

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:
Minimum $53,500 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications
Qualified applicants should expect a range of pay between $53,500 and $60,500 but the offered pay will be dependent on qualifications and experience of the chosen applicant.
