Job Responsibilities
- Serves as Child Protection Assistant; drives or travels with Child Protection Specialist staff to homes to assist in investigations of complaints regarding child abuse and neglect; provides assistance to the Child Protection Specialist as they conduct interviews with children and families; assists Child Protection Specialists with ensuring the safety of children being transported by the use of seatbelts and/or age-appropriate care seats for each minor; transports children brought into the Department’s care to their necessary evaluations (e.g. medical) at the direction of the Child Protection Specialist or Child Protection Investigations Team Supervisor
- Observes children and reports to the Child Protection Specialist any unusual behavior relating to the mental, social adjustment, and overall health of children; reports to the Child Protection Specialist and/or supervisor any communication with children resulting in disclosure of abuse and neglect
- Communicates to clients services available through DCFS and private agencies
- Organizes and maintains automotive records and materials, including mileage, maintenance, and expenses; monitors and tracks maintenance of auto to ensure it is a safe and clean means of transportation for home removal of children
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above
Minimum Qualifications
Requires any combination of education, training, or experience which provides knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to either the completion of four years of high school or two years of experience working with the culturally disadvantaged in a public or private social welfare program
Employment Conditions
- Requires a valid driver’s license, daily access to an automobile, and proof of vehicle insurance
- Requires ability to pass a background check
- Requires ability to work in a 24 hour on call capacity
