Position Summary
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and energetic individual to serve as Grant Specialist. Subject to management approval, this position will perform highly technical social services grant seeking, writing, planning, and analysis and will perform extensive research into available grants. The position will conceptualize and conduct grant writing to secure new private and public grants on behalf of the Department of Children and Family Services. The position will also develop and administer the budget for assigned grants and contracts. This position provides a great opportunity for someone who is detail oriented and focused on obtaining grants that will enhance the Department’s services. Job Responsibilities
1. Serves as Grant Specialist.
2. Develops and administers the overall budget for assigned grants and contracts.
3. Serves as agency expert on assigned grants and contracts and provides input into work groups and task forces relevant to same.
4. Serves as grant liaison to federal officials.
5. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to the completion of a master’s degree.
2, Requires two years of progressively responsible professional experience in community organization, social service work, or in program planning and development.
Specialized Skills: Of the previously noted years of experience, requires 1 year of grant research and grant application writing experience; 1 year of experience developing and managing budgets for grant funded projects; and 1 year of experience performing fiscal and program monitoring activities of a social service program.
Preferred Qualifications
1. Prefers 1 year of grant research and grant application writing experience in a public or private organization.
2. Prefers 1 year of experience developing and managing budgets for grant funded projects.
3. Prefers 1 year of experience performing fiscal and program monitoring activities of a social service program.
