Description
The primary purpose of the Social Service Supervisor 1 classification is to directly supervise Protective Services Social Service Workers who are responsible for screening incoming referrals. The classification may carry a small case load pertaining to child welfare which involves extremely difficult or volatile cases, interprets, clarifies and recommends changes to procedures, policies, regulations, and laws pertaining to child welfare, and serves on internal and external committees which deal with child welfare issues.
Duties
60% Directly supervises Social Service Worker 2 (Screeners); provides oversight and direction regarding the collection of information for child and/or adult referrals within the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS) or the Ohio Database for Adult Protective Services (ODAPS). Routinely utilizes the Ohio Child Protective Services Screening Guidelines and Ohio Adult Protective Services Screening Guidelines when reviewing and screening reports within SACWIS and/or ODAPS. Manage assignments of Intakes to casework staff for investigation, assessment, and planning. Provides ongoing tracking and management of data to assure assignment equitability amongst staff and screening consistency. Recommend changes to agency policies and procedures; assist in the development, implementation, modification, and evaluation of existing and new agency programs and services, particularly as they relate to Screening. Assist with supervisory coverage and assume temporary responsibility of other supervisors and/or administrator during periods of absence or unavailability; serve as liaison between management and staff, direct and participate in supervisory staff meetings and other related management support tasks. Provides orientation training to new social service workers, and ongoing training to current Social Service Worker 2 caseworkers regarding abuse and neglect referrals for both children and adults.
20% Provides direction to referral sources regarding additional supportive services for both children and adults within the community. Provide information and referral services for clients not accepted for direct service; maintain contact with other agencies; advise public of agency procedures; assist departmental director or designees in preparing reports and data collection; provide and implement, as directed, recommendation for policy and procedure. Promote and ensure active, effective communication with all agencies and service providers that interface with agency staff, foster parents, and clients. Provide training and community outreach for social service organizations, staff, and other requesting agencies. Provide emergency coverage due to absence of regular screener. Participate in ongoing training, supervisory/staff meetings, staff consultations and other related management support tasks.
10% Complete forms, reports, case records, logs and correspondence; input data into SACWIS, ODAPS, and/or the electronic data management system; organize record documentation (e.g., photos, audio/video tapes, handwritten/typed notes, written summaries, etc.). Conduct initial interviews with public for child/adult abuse/neglect investigations; collect, organize, and receive child/adult abuse/neglect referrals from caseworkers, other agencies, and the general public.
10% Participates in weekend and after hours on call coverage on a rotating basis and provides after work hours consultations on open cases. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Two years’ experience as a Social Services Worker 2, 30132.
- Or completion of undergraduate major core course work in behavioral science, social science, early childhood development technology, education or related field. Also requires two years’ experience in a position similar to a Social Services Worker 2, 30132.
- Or undergraduate major core course work that includes two courses in adult psychology one of which must be in the area of gerontology or twelve months experience, two courses or twelve months experience in child psychology, two courses in social welfare or other sociology related topic or twelve months experience, two course or twelve months experience in counseling, one course or six months experience in interviewing techniques, one course or six months experience in domestic violence, and one course or six months experience in courtroom procedures. Also requires two years’ experience in a position similar to a Social Services Worker 2, 30132.
